Hey folks,
I have a few outstanding threads where I need to declaw the copycat thesis, but I just saw "Gladiator" last night on HBO and I thought I'd point out some interesting parallels between Maximus and Jesus...
Now, since these parallels are so strong, and we obviously can't rule out the notion that the movie "Gladiator" existed in some pre-Christian form, we have yet another potential case for Christian borrowing.</font>

I would say we have another potential case for archetypical expression. The structure is hard-wired and universal. The details vary. It's like trying to smuggle a book through customs. The unconscious mind can easily remove the silly cultural wrapper and see the truth for what it is.
Parallel 9 is only valid with the synoptics. John has a different Jesus altogether--one who is constantly proclaiming who he is in long, dense theological monologues.
