I have a question...
Is it god or god's priests that like gold (money)? |

I don't need any stats here to know that the majority of wife beaters are christians. Just going by a life time of experience tells me that fact.
The first battered woman I knew, was a friend at my church back in the 70's. Her husband beat here almost weekly and was a top guy at Christian Life Cathedral in Dallas. She would tell me of other friend she knew who "shared" the same problem (all at local area churches). Several girlfriends through the years who related stories of ex's who beat them... again all Christians. Current wife's ex beat her, also a Christian dude. My wife's brother who is a current church minister, beats not only his wife but his two kids also. My own brother beat both his wives, again a christian. I volunteered at the Crisis Hotline for 2 years and heard numerous women with husbands that beat them I always got the Christian twist when talking to those women, even though many men and women went to the church for help, God just didn't see fit to fix the husband so they called me at the hotline. Almost all of them claimed their husbands where God Fearing men. I don't need to see stats that tell me what I have learned over a lifetime. The trouble with you and Layman, seems to be a lack of "real" life experience and a lot of "empty" argument technique. I will give you both 20 years to see how your Christian ideas only hurt the family, then I will enjoy hearing your arguments at that time. PS You also, have falsely assumed I am someone named KOY, I'm not, but I can only assume he is a pretty together person, but I haven't read any of his posts here. |

Did Nomad just change the subject again? I guess it would be to obvious if Layman did it again.
Being a Christian will cost most people about $1000,000.00 over the next 30 years. If the family has a matching 401K with just a 1 to 1 investment match by the employer, then it will really cost almost 2 million dollars. 800 per month at 10%. I bet a good Christian like Nomad could do a lot more good with 2 million than his church will do with just the 144,000. Let the other Christians who don't understand compound interest support your church now and you support it really well in 30 years. In effect God has just supplied you with this knowledge and now it is your Christian duty to multiply your income as instructed in the Bible. Unless you are reading from other parts which tell you can't get into heaven if you are anything but poor. |

needs? Where in the Bible does Jesus say "Go out and build lots of pretty Church buildings (which sit unused most of the week) with nice landscaping that will cost a LOT of money to pay for and maintain so that all will have to give money to you" ?????????????? The Churches are mis-using most of the money. |

Reimbursing ministers is another practical need and was specifically condoned by Jesus. Aren't you going to complain that my church funds a battered women's shelter too? |

I don't remember jesus teaching to buy a big church and use the money for expenses. He taught to leave your family members and follow him, that way there is no real need for churches. In this case Jesus was right. Did I say that? |

It is because of the church that I became aware of and was encouraged to support the women's shelter. The church makes contributions to the shelter from the general fund and we have made special contributions that went directly to the shelter. |

I just wish you guys would pay your own cost of addiction instead of ripping us off too.
Consider that I live in KS, which funds most of its education through property taxes. Guess what is exempt? And guess how many huge luxury Christian country clubs we have? So someone's taxes have to be higher to fund these exemptions. I do agree with Layman that a church has needs...fine, let them fund it themselves and not skimming off the backs of others. I have no problem giving a church tax exemption for a service that benefits all people (and a cult building doesn't) and is genuine public charity, not rice-bowl charity. (Give them something to eat/place to sleep, in exchange for indoctrination.) |
