Lightbulb The Nature of God's Only Son

Christianity is a belief stratum well founded on certain intrinsic moral principles, but it is ultimately a a creation of man and thus subject to the weakness of man. Of particular interest to me role of Jesus in the development of westernized christianity. Beginning with the immaculate deception wherein a young Mary Magdalene apparently had a sexual encounter and was unable to own up to the consequnces... what person would want to admit they had an affair? So she constructed a scenario wherein she alone was deemed worthy to carry the fleshly vessel of God no intercourse required. Joseph must surely have had his doubhts but ultimately who want's to believe that they have been cheated upon... particularly given the punishment for female adultary at the time. With this sort of background the young christ child was bound to grow up a little odd. Certainly an impressionable mind told over and over that it is the miraculous son of god will begin to harbor the delusion himself. I cannot question that christ existed, becuause he is so well known and publicised, but anyone can certainly question his divine nature. What I find compelling is this question did Jesus willfylly decieve his followers or did he truly believe he was born of a divinity. I for one do not find it hard to concieve of Christ as a con-man, he was dealing with a simple people and it has been said that any sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic and scientific reproductions of all his miracles have been conducted. If one analyzes his actions from this perspective we see several motives spring uphe could be using his reputation to obtain food lodging wealth or simply fame. Using this logic the sudden betrayel of Christ by Judas is not so out of place either... perhaps judas saw what christ was doing and tried to put an end to it, only to have Christ turn his capture and conviction into the ultimate sacrifice, 'Sure God (my father) could save me... but we talked it out and decided I should die for your sins instead...'. Ultimately his followers seeing this 'sacrifice' Discerned that the way to heaven did not lay with God alone but with God through Jesus. Thus was a man able to prey upon the beliefs of the masses and ingratiate himself fully into the monotheistic mythology. Not a bad parting gift aye? Any way tis just a though.

Regards,

Young Jesus is a quiet and studious boy who is usually well behaved but can be disruptive in moneylending class where he is prone to tipping over the tables. He is also the best dinner monitor we have ever had, and we have saved a fortune since he started taking second sitting. Doesn't make friends easily. Reads a lot. Good at making chairs.

I hate to be nit-picky but...
wrong mary and you have the same wrong idea about immaculate deception I had - it refers to the correct mary not having been stained by original sin ...
there is much to be learned

edit to add
but your premise is a valid one to be sure

Just about Mary Magdalene....

I did a search for "mary" at unboundbible.org.

Matthew 13:55
"Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?"

Matthew 27:56
"Among them was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee."

So Mary Magdalene is different from that other Mary, but it seems that Jesus's mother is the same Mary who is there after his crucifixion.

Mark 6:3
"Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him."

Mark 15:40
"There were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome."

Here it also seems that the other Mary is Jesus's mother.

John 19:25
"Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene."

So it sounds like there 3 Mary's there! (Also, in John 11, there is a story about Mary and Martha, which is a different Mary I think)

My utmost apologies, this is the problem with writing posts at 1:00 am with no sleep or fact checking. I'll try to get it straight in the future...

Although agreeing in general with Mr. Scratcher's sentiments, as Head of Drama in St. Ivel's Dairy College I would like to add that Jesus' behaviour has become more and more erratic of late. He suffers from an acute persecution complex brought on by his propensity to take the blame for any little infraction in class, even when I know that it wasn't him. His adherents suck up to him normally, but are nowhere to be seen when the shit hits the fan, even to the point of denying they have ever met him.

He has also developed a sinister habit of enticing small children to him and making them suffer.

In addition, I have had to rule him out of any future school plays because he is increasingly inclined to rush onto stage unscripted at inopportune moments screaming 'I'll Save You' before faking an extremely grizzly death. Our last nativity was ruined because of him banging on the windows and repeatedly shouting 'It Wasn't Like That', 'Eeeeeh I Did Not' and 'You Lying Gets'.

I don't think we have to suppose that Jesus was other than the son of his married parents. The virgin birth is one of those added-on-afterwards bits of the gospels becuase it was felt more appropriate that he should be miraculously conceived.

Literal divine impregnation and virgin births are hard to get out of the Old Testament, but they are present in abundance in pagan mythology; even some historical figures like Pythagoras and Alexander the Great were sometimes imagined to have divine paternity.

Where is Pantera?, I think he got his screen name from the old Jewish legend that Jesus' father was a Roman soldier named Pantera, who raped Mary and got her preggers, they went to hide in Egypt do to the stigma of rape, Joseph was a rather kindly old gent for his day.
