Layman,
I admire how you tried to avoid my original post by changing the subject to battered women. I know it is hard to battle the common sense of my original post as you struggle to save what little faith you have left in the traditional tithing scam perpetrated by all churches everywhere. Every Good father’s advice to their children is “Save your money”. God’s advice to his children is “Spend your money now”. |

Talk about the pot calling the kettle back.
I was very precise in my answer to you: Churches have current needs such as salary, facilities, and charity. You promptly accused the church of fostering the abuse of women. Contributing 10% leaves people enough to invest wisely should they choose to do so. The church has current needs. |

So you think the avg. family has 20% of their monthly income left over at the end of the month. OK, I can now assume you are not a family of 3.
Does the CHURCH have needs or do PEOPLE have needs? Others have accused the church of greater crimes than fostering battering women and rightly so. [This message has been edited by critical thinking made ez (edited May 15, 2001).] |

No one saves 10% of their income in the United States??????? No, not one????????
The church is the people.>>>>>>>>> I was referring to the people with real NEEDS (outside of church). Not the church people with psychotic problems and needs. |

I pointed out that the church serves people beyond its walls, such as the battered women's shelter. But you seemed to disapprove of such acts of charity. |

What percentage is the split from your church between the woman's shelter and general soul saving expense? I bet again that it soul saving is more important to your church than PEOPLE saving. |

i'd appreciate it if someone could just do me a favor and list the nt verse or verses where jesus stated that tithing was a part of the old law that should be retained for his new church. clearly, a 10% contribution was necessary in the days when all sins had to be redeemed with blood sacrifices (that's a lot of lambs and bulls) but if that part of the law were to be maintained then jesus must have reiterated it. right? all i seem to remember is jesus saying that to follow him you had to give all your possessions to the poor save one set of clothing. this doesn't exactly jive with what i hear from benny hinn...
