Ip, I'd advise you to READ a biography of Lewis before you determine that he was religiously indifferent. First off, to be an atheist does not require one to care about religion (or does it and atheism is simply a parasite paradigm? which would explain the frustration expressed in the thread regarding the title "unbeliever"). Secondly, his whole life he had a philosophical view of God. He was never mad at God for not existing, that is an extremely absurd position to take. He simply believed that nature was it. He examined the issue (no need to be religiously interested) and came to his own conclusion. That position changed over time through various philosphical and literary readings, and discussions with fellow theists. If you read his autobio. you'll see that he accepted his conclusion of a God kicking and screaming, because it was the only rational conclusion he could come to. (could not explain reason through empiricism and skepticism) Later he accepted the Christian God.

I have read both books and although they may not be the answer for every skeptic or answer all the questions , it does show that christianity is a 'rational belief' in spite of the lies, half truths, intentional misinterpretations and even good ol' honest problems with the Bible. I think if skeptics could listen to the debates from William Lane Craig or Gary Habermas, they would see logic and reasoning can convince atheist of God's existence. Assuming someone is dumb because they have accepted christianity is just a cop out for the skeptics and shows their insecurities in their own beliefs.

Earl Doherty has several book reviews on his website and he's now finishing work on part 3 of his review of The Case for Christ by Strobel. Doherty wrote The Jesus Puzzle--Did Christianity begin with a mythical Christ?
