Grumpy I never ever did read the bible to study but just look things up as they are presented to me. From this I remember some. I am a Catholic and this should tell you enough.

And if your were the only one here you would be king indeed.

My nomination for strangest verse is John 21:7. In a humorous, light-hearted tone to conclude the gospel, the author of John has a naked Peter, after being informed by the Lord's catamite that Jesus has returned, scramble to put his coat on before jumping into the waters.
Quote:
Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
To think Jesus, after dying, decided to come back to these clowns of all people.

Peter was naked to show that even after the resurrection faith must be renewed and so once again Peter, put on the cloak of faith and jumped into the celestial sea . . . which is the right side of the mind (the boat here) where the fishing is good.

Remember that the above took place after resurrection when both sides of the mind are open to each other. They were close to shore means that they could, and were thus able to consume and understand their "catch." Their "net was not torn" indicates the ease of comprehension and the "transformation of bread into the body of Christ" is based on this fact.

PS I forgot yo add that when Peter first put on this cloak of faith the Catholic Church was formed and is therefore the "island" surrounded by the celestial sea. Eg. "The Notre Dame on Isle of the City" or "Chartres" on its own island.

I have visited both of them; c'était amusant :]

Though the allegorical method has been around for a long time [church fathers]; I prefer to take the opposite tact, especially here: by the criterion of embarassment, these likely represent authentic events--no one would make up details & things that strange; they'd make up ones that make more sense :]

That's just the point, if they made more sense the supernatural would not exist and our life would be that much less interesting because the inspirations we extract from the supernatural could no longer be.
