I typed in a hurry - a lame excuse, but I certainly realise that it takes more than 18 votes to establish the probability of Jesus having existed

Well that explains it. Mine was only 18 years
ago. :-)

You're right though, you'd need at least
30 opinions to prove it! (Not from the
south, of course).

Why ? One got killed at the cross & the other got the credit for the "resurrection".

Is this the "Days of our Lives" Evil Twin hypothisis? I like it...

A variant of which is perhaps the most difficult thing about the whole problem. Does it count if, say, there was an itinerant Cynic-style rabbi named Jesus who said most of the things attributed to him in Q and none of the rest of the story is true?

Dous it count if there was a seer-style rabbi named Jesus who prophesized the destruction of the Temple in advance and none of the rest of the story is true?

Does it count if someone, whether Paul, the Essenes or someone else worked out all (or most of) the theology from a strictly mythicist position and this later got interwoven with the Cynic or seer Jesus, and again none of the rest of the story is true?

The scenarios could be multiplied, but you get the point. Historicity isn't a simple yes or no proposition.
