Post Where is the Garden of Eden?

Any ideas about where it is supposed to have been? Shouldn't it still be there since God put some Cherubim there to guard it? Or did he hide it somehow? What am I missing?

It, along with the cherubims, got drowned in the flood

cherabim 1: "What is all this water coming at us?

cherabim 2: "Buggered if I know, but, we have a job given to us by god We can't leave!

cherabim 1: "I know, but....glug, glug, glug....

The rest is "history"

I read an article, somewhere, once that, using the four rivers described as flowing into it (Tigris, Euphrates, Pishon, Gishon, I think) located the Garden of Eden at the bottom of the Persian Gulf. It didn't make much sense then, and it still doesn't today. I'd cite it, but I don't at all remember where I read it.

Probably what we call Sumeria. I've read that eden in Sumerian meant "plain" but in Hebrew it means "delight" so it's either a play on words or the region was associated with paradise because of this linguistic coincidence.

In the genealogies of the OT, the authors use patriarchs to describe the relationships (racial or linguistic) between the tribes. Eden is the name of one of the sons of Levi and probably is meant to refer to the dwellers of that region. Remember, the garden was in Eden, that wasn't the garden's name.

Talking

I actually had someone in all seriousness try to tell me that the Garden of Eden had been located somewhere in the Southeastern United States. I was in Georgia at that time and talking to a local so it might have just been boosterism. However, they claimed that some clown had done calculations based on ocean currents and concluded that for Ol’ Noah to have wound up on Mt. Ararrat (sp?) he would have had to have started his journey somewhere around Atlanta.

It took a lot of effort to keep a straight face and just say “Oh, really”

It's in Asimov's guide to the Bible, where he derives its location in the fertile crescent in a very common-sense way.
