Post "The Bible Unearthed" and Dever's Review

I have been reading posts about Finkelstein's "The Bible Unearthed". I have noticed that a person, Ish has mentioned Dever's critical review of the book.

Is it not true that other than the issue of the size of David's kingdom, Dever essentially agrees with Finkelstein? Yet I get the impression from Ish's posts that Dever SUBSTANTIALLY disagrees with Finkelstein.

Basically, yes. Perhaps in a round about way, I stated as much on a previous thread...Review of "The Bible Unearthed".

From what I remember, most of my posts were more about the "foundational problems" (i.e. "minimalism" of Finkelstein) between Dever and Finkelstein (as well as Carrier's overreaction to Dever's review). They have what seems to be a relatively major disagreement over the origins of Israel. I also provided the Israel's Origins link which catagorizes them under the theory to which they subscribe.

I realize that Dever is a "revisionist" and as I stated on the other thread, I don't agree with all of his ideas either. I tend to be more conservative myself.

If you read a little closer, I think you'll see that I note only some of Finkelstein's ideas as non-mainstream.

Hope this clears things up.
