And this guy claims to be a Christian. This is what I don't get. BTW Neil mentions that McGrath is scheduled to speak "on academic freedom at an upcoming conference!!!"

What did he do that is un-Christian?

What does academic freedom have to do with Neil not seeing a DMCA notice?

There are no shortage of sites on the web criticizing the Bible from a historic, scientific, and moral POV. What makes this one so special that warranted it being taken down?

I like Maklelan too (love his blog) but I'm trying to understand his point of view. Joel is a good guy for reporting to Wordpress about criticism of a post he wrote? Really? Why is that? Maybe he is a great biblioblogger. I don't know how to judge that. But what kind of a person does this? As I said I can demonstrate how malicious this man really is - I just don't want to drag a whole new can of worms into the discussion. It shouldn't be about me. It's Neil's work that has been wiped out. And please don't cite the 'he should have backed up his files' excuse. This was malicious action that was totally unwarranted.

Default The Third Quest for JC

JW:
My how the Eusebian tables have turned. Now Neil Godfree believes in JC (Joel's Complaint) and Tom Verenna does not. Since the one thing everyone agrees on here, as opposed to Jesus, is that Joel Watts exists, how about a 1st hand comment from Joel instead of all this multi hand and foot witness?

But is this really needed? Neil has made the original claim of JC and it would be embarrassing for Joel to confirm it. Plus Stephen Huller, an entirely different screen name from "Neil Godfree", confirms Neil. So what more evidence do we need?

It is my understanding that Neil was asked to cease wholly copying full text from Joel's blog to which he did not comply. All he had to do was summarize to link and quote snippets to accomplish the same task. Instead he didn't listen. It had nothing to do with content, it had to do with going against DMCA fair use. This holds true for everyone. DMCA did give Godfrey a chance to fix it. He didn't do it. And he got burned as a result.
I'm curious: Why were you sure about it not being Joel Watts?

Was the offending post the one about the "science of history" and Joel's silly list?

Joe, what don't I believe in? I'm confused.

Also this: http://unsettledchristianity.com/2013/06/run-dmca/
"In other words, I asked Neil not to repeat the entirety of the post, but he didn’t care. He had the chance amend his post to remove the copied content (and he copied every word from start to finish) or seek authorization. When he not only refused but re-posted it, it was not in my hands any longer.

"Neil, on his FB, is saying this:
“My Vridar blog was deactivated by WordPress because I exposed Joel Watts, a published New Testament “scholar”, as a fraud and liar — He complained to WordPress that I had quoted his own (fraudulent) blogpost in full as part of my analysis of it. I am therefore deemed to be in some sort of violation of copyright law.”
"That’s not exactly true… And yes, I do have emails to prove it. See the link below for the process.

"What could Neil have done? Easy. Removed the copied in full content or asked for permission. Or challenged the removal request. Instead, he put the material back up."

I have since retracted my position on this (see earlier in the thread). Initially neither I nor McGrath or Watts knew why Vridar was taken down. That has since changed. I also cite Joel's response to Godfrey's claims he didn't know about the DMCA notices earlier in the post above.

According to Joel, Godfrey has to email dmca@automattic.com. Subject line DMCA #1585330. He can dispute it there but likely he will still have to comply with the initial request regarding DMCA fair use policy.

I know you retracted your position (hence "why were you sure"). So you were sure because Joel didn't know why Vridar was taken down?

But he must have known it, since he filed the DCMA claim.
