Default Richard Carrier's Jesus-Historicity Book due to come out

In preparation for this work, Richard Carrier has written about historical method, arguing that many valid methods reduce to Bayes's theorem: Proving History: Bayes's Theorem and the Quest for the Historical Jesus: Richard Carrier: 9781616145590: Amazon.com: Books (or via: amazon.co.uk)

But most recently, Update on Historicity of Jesus » Richard Carrier Blogs:
Quote:
My new book, On the Historicity of Jesus, has passed peer review and is now under contract to be published by a major academic press specializing in biblical studies: Sheffield-Phoenix, the publishing house of the University of Sheffield (UK). I sought four peer review reports from major professors of New Testament or Early Christianity, and two have returned their reports, approving with revisions, and those revisions have been made. Since two peers is the standard number for academic publications, we can proceed. Two others missed the assigned deadline, but I’m still hoping to get their reports and I’ll do my best to meet any revisions they require as well.
Due to the typical pace of academic publishing, however, his book is likely to come out as late as February next year. But it will be something to look forward to; RC states that "I think this will be the first pro-Jesus myth book of any kind published by a university press in the last fifty years."

Great news. I guess the heresiologists will no longer be able to claim "no mythicist has published a peer-reviewed book by an academic press, it can't be done."

Indeed not. Isn't it good to know that there are people who, faced with the fact that everyone thinks the idea is garbage and nobody has published on it, will engage in endless effort, rather than acknowledging this, to try instead to find ways to game the system.

What's a heresiologist? I've never heard the term before.

Here's the university press that will be publishing RC's Jesus-mythicism book: Sheffield Phoenix Press - Home -- seems appropriate.

I think that it's interesting that some reputable historical-Jesus researchers in academia are now calling themselves historicity-agnostic. Could they now be daring to do what they had been unwilling to do earlier?

After arguing that much of the New Testament's "history" is made up by its authors, I think that Jesus mythicism is only one step further, though many in academia have been unwilling to take that final step.

Yes, because they have kids in college and mortgage payments. It's known as job security. They've seen what happens in Biblical studies when you have the audacity to question everything, e.g. Robert M. Price.

You mean royalties for twenty published books?

Most of his books are out of print, and I doubt he makes royalties on any other than maybe The Pre-Nicene New Testament and The Amazing Colossal Apostle.

To be rich, you go the Bart Ehrman route. Hook up with HarperCollins and publish books that are controversial to the public but firmly within the academic mainstream.
