Jamie, the Christian viewpoint that I am familiar with is a little different than the scenario you are portraying. From what I understand heaven isn’t so much a place where good things are outwardly done to you. I don’t think that someone is actively “rewarding” you for making it to heaven; the reward is just being there with God (who is all loving and all things good and all that). Hell in this sense is the absense of God. The souls in hell no longer have the option to be with God, and thus they cannot be happy.

I’ve heard sin defined as something humans do which damages the relationship between God and the sinner. So, sins are most of the time “immediately” handled in the sense that the sinner is farther away from God, just like those souls in hell. The only difference is that the sinner on earth still has a chance to choose to repair the relationship.
