for those who say it's the result of an immoral lifestyle...

what about those people in third/second world countries who get into a nasty accident and need a blood transfusion, then get Aids from the donated blood?

My point exactly.

although, to be fair, many religions seem to have focused on teaching people to stay indoors away from temptation, danger, etc and to just spend the time praising god/giving money to the church.

Theo, just chill; I've been chided on this thread and rolled with it, so why can't you?

Once again, you misrepresent what I said. You were arguing that abstinence was a Godly way to avoid STDs, I was arguing that it wasn't (and used His words to back it up!)

I am going to repeat what I already said, and if you think this is hatred and vitriol, so be it. (note I also mentioned my mom is a Christian, and was appaled at the behavior)

If you have evidence that Christian churches are promoting tolerance of the gay lifestyle, rather than condemnation, please by all means provide it now. Once again, you whine and whine, but where is your data?

Thank you Albion! Yes I suppose we do get on rants. But you see. . .I just don't have evidence that buddhists or hindus or agnostics are messing up people's lives by using religion to trump scientific discovery, or using an archaic text to deny around 10% of Americans (homosexuals) basic human rights.

Why do we spend so much time fighting fundamentalism - because they are trying to force their religion by promoting legislation! Don't like the gay lifestyle - don't do it! Why do you feel necessary to enforce your beliefs on everyone else too???

If Buddhists start using the Dalai Lama's writings to persecute gays, or prevent science teaching in schools, I'll bitch about them too!

Why not?

Oh, and of course I'm a bit of a clown. You should've been here for my first ten posts as Jesus.

Wouldn't this form of thinking lead to natural selection, or in other words, survival of the fittest? Is it something that a-theists really want to point out to Christians? Or should someone pull me aside by the ear and let me know that Christians are putative human beings?

Not likely... this is a rather well-known interview fragment:

Carl Sagan: "What would happen to Tibetan Buddhism if science were to prove incontestably that some basic tenet of that religion is false?"

Dalai Lama: "Why, then, Tibetan Buddhism would have to change."
