I got in on the later BETA stages of SW:G. While there are some things I liked, the over-all feel of the game just didn't work for me.

Sorry for the entirely subjective opinion.

I too am waiting anxiously for Knights of the Old Republic to finally be released for PC. As it is, I'm tiding myself over playing Shadows of Undrentide over and over.

I've been playing EVE, which is pretty awesome.

The economy is almost entirely player-driven, and you can do pretty much whatever you want to (though you'll want to hang out in the lower-security systems if you want to do any pirating without the police breathing down your neck).

The gameplay is pretty slow-paced, though, so if you're looking for constant action, I'd suggest another game. After playing several FPS'es, I like the change of pace that this game provides :D

I'm an old time veteran of these games.
I've played 10 MMORG's
Ultima Online: 1 yr
Everquest: 1 yr
DOAC: 7mo's
Motor City online: 8mo's
Earth & beyond: 4 mo's
The Sims Online: 3 mo's
Anarchy Online: 3 mo's (off and on)
SWG: (1 month)
AC1: (3-4 mo's)
AC2 (4 mo's)
Eve: (3-4 mo's)

I tend to switch back & forth depending on my mood and keep multiple games open so above numbers are rough.

MY Personal Biases:
I'm completely uninterested in pvp and feel that blowing up other players is best done in a shooter or in my case playing Mechwarrior 4. I like games with non-pvp servers or Pvp switches although I liked Doac's Realm VS Realm System.
I Like to craft and build things.
I like immersive worlds that convince me I'm SOMEWHERE ELSE.
I like to occasionally fight things

You don't have to agree with me. Just be aware of my biases.

One poster recommends Shadowbane. I must disagree EVEN if you like pvp. All reports I've read are that the game is buggy, laggy and mostly unplayable. Also the No-rules PvP gets old fast. I'd call it CripsVSBloods online. You have to group and join a gang or get whacked (alot). Even Pvp fans I know panned this game.

Now Wolfpack (who makes this game) was honest from the start what kind of game this is. So I don't have a bone to pick (believe it or not) with this game. The negative rants I heard about this game honestly surprised me.

AC1: older game, primitive graphically. Ok content. Ok crafting. Combat is no better or worse than other MMORG's. Not a bad game in its day but old and outdated..

AC2: Yuck. Dumbed down monstrousity, looks pretty but next to NO content and crafting sucks rocks.

Eve: decent graphics but very repetitive and boring. Sophisticated market economy.
A good game for people who like a sophisticated economy, but slow-paced and repetitive.

SWG: BEAUTIFUL game, Sound is ok. Crafting economy is more sophisticated than Eve's. THE most sophisticated Crafting engine I've ever seen (yes better than UO's) I personally feel it has the most potential for any game out there. There are a number of unfinished and flat-out broken classes, some (not a lot) annoying bugs. PvP is by zone. You go to special battlefields to fight other people.
Bottom Line: Game is wonderful for Crafters not sophisticated enough for Action-type.

IF you want a game that emphasizes Combat:
Anarchy Online is the game I'd recommend.
Lots of different weapons, skills, armor to buy and what not.
PvP is by zone.
AO had a very rough launch but Funcom fixed a LOT of the problems with this game. No longer laggy or buggy and has a decent number of players in it. They also released an expansion pack. Buying the expansion pack gives you the original AO game, the Booster pack (Notum wars) and the expansion itself.
Don't know much about the expansion pack. Good graphics, nicely designed cities and landmarks and good sound and music.

For Crafters: SWG is the game for you.
For Combat-types: Anarchy online.

I got it and I like it. The missions are kind of dull at the moment (you have to start out with the easiest ones) and it's too easy to get killed at the start (you have to pick your enemies with care). I think it will get better when I'm powered up a bit and especially when they bring in vehicles and starships. They are really listening to fan feedback and the game can only improve.

I wouldn't either, but I can at least see why some people would instead of trying to act superior to them. $15 a month for something that provides literally 30+ hours of enjoyment per month is really a bargain. Me though, I'll take the 30+ hours of enjoyment a month for free by playing Battlefield: 1942 instead.

I've had 3 friends leave DAOC for Galaxies. All of them have come back with horrid reviews of the game. I've played AC,AC2,EQ,DAOC, and AO. My personal fav. is AC but my current addiction is DAOC. From everything I've heard Galaxies is a giant turd.

I played Asheron's Call for about 2 years before I finally gave it up.

The memories I have of it almost make me go back to it, though.

Well was in the Bata for starwars and I like it! I am mostly a craft type person but lately I have been out killing stuff. I am not a power gamer. Work and girlfriend takes some time but I play as much as I possibly can.
Yes bugs bugs bugs are a huge problem and some of the classes (Droid Engineers) are not even close to what they should be. Combat types still need that final balancing to make things fair.
Missions that have a story are far an few (trying to work up to being able to talk and accept missions from Laia have to go do missions for the droids, some guy and Wedge before she will talk to me.

I really think that in 6mounths to a year with the space expansion this game will rock, I hope!!! but for now I am just plodding along building my guys life.

Oh ya the main reason that I put up with the crap in this game ITS STARWARS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes I am a Starwars junky.

I don't really have a problem with there being no "ultimate goal" in this game. When I was a kid I used to imagine just living in the Star Wars universe, and this game makes it possible. Anyway, the whole point of the game is that you create your OWN goals and go as far as you want to go. You make your own way in the SW universe, to paraphrase Jango Fett. Again, once they work out all the bugs and add the expansions, I think this game will be really amazing.

I just hope they'll make it so instead of only being able to buy a starship, you can build one out of junked parts, steal one, or win one in a game of Sabaac!
