Probably nothing. To me God=faith. I only have faith in myself, my mom, and my humanity.

The more I read of Carl Sagan, the more I think he's God.

(You have to remember that Internet Infidels is my first trek into the world of interacting with atheists on a regular basis and learning about hard science and stuff...I'm from Oklahoma, for pete's sake, I was a Creationist until I was twelve...it's only been eleven years...*sniff*don't judge me!! *runs off in tears*)

Hey, if a 500m Jesus came out at me , fanfare angels and all that other crap, he gave reasonable explanations to all my questions, abolished poverty, capitalism, prejudice etc. i might start to change my mind about religion. having said this, i wouldnt change my mind about how evil Xians can be.

However, either the event is real, or a product of my imagination. If it is real, and i do change my mind then no problem right? (except for a whole bunch of stuff i shouldnt have done). In fact the world might be a better place after ive said my 2 cents worth to the giganto-jesus.
And if its a product of my imagination, then i'll be locked in an asylum, which will stop me from proclaiming my so-called "truth" from the rooftops, thus not affecting anyone else. So no problem either way.

Hypothetically, wouldn't it be within the range of abilities for a deity to convince anyone instantaneously of said deity's existence?

Why this theistic game of hide and seek, anyway?

Seems like a rather childish concept to me and plays rather well into the hands of snake oil salesmen.

If someone could show me in no uncertain terms
and with facts to prove it that there exists another reality in this universe other than the one we have identified and exist in, then I might consider believing in some supernatural entity.
Unfortunately, if someone was able to prove
there is an alternate reality, then it would cease to be an alternate reality.

Just as saying that god exists. By even mentioning that god exists, you are saying that he is a real entity and everything in our reality has certain attributes, and characteristics, else it would not be identified as being part of our reality. When the supernatural is defined, it ceases to be supernatural, so to identify something as outside of our reality, is to destroy the original premise, making it again unprovable.

Did you see the episode of Star Trek: TNG where this exact scenario played out? An alien species was using a planet's superstitions to take over. They even tried their tricks on the Enterprise crew (Worf got a little scared when the hot chick turned herself into the Klingon version of Satan). The Enterprise crew convinced the planet's leaders of what was happening and every one lived happily ever after (as usual).
