"How many of these same school children used to believe in Santa Claus? Why did they believe in him? Because their parents said there was one. Well, when in a public school, the government is that parent. Do you disagree?"

The pledge with two words "under god" can hardly be compared to kids being taught religion in schools which isn't happening.

Listening to Michael Savage.
There was a woman on there having a total mental breakdown. She was bawling and crying "They've stolen our country".

I also heard "moral meltdown" and some other choice demagoguery. I think I'm beginning to see what others have already been saying about it being bad for atheist PR. And just when we were starting to do so well.

We atheists, and specifically Andrew Newdow, may be in for some rough times in the near future.

Beekay: If you don't feel like re-locating in the dead of night, be careful of what you write. Concentrating on the hate generated is a good idea. Even that much may get you some flak, if your town is similar to some small towns around here. Plus, you have your wife to consider.

Still, we have to support and applaud the courage of Newdow, as well as hope he doesn't come off as a mean-spirited crank on Connie Chung tonight.

I'm really starting to seriously consider making the Godless Americans March.

Exclamation

A reporter from the local/south of Boston metro newspaper just called me for an interview. They are doing a story on this and needed an atheists' perspective.

We talked for about 10 minutes. I think that he understood my point of view. It's hard to know what will come of this. But it is a bit freightening how even here on the other side of the continent from the 9th circuit, there are a lot of very upset people over this.

After the interview I also gave him the names of the head of the Humanist Society of Mass and the head of the American Atheists of Massachusetts.

I won't be able to make the Godless American march but this decision makes me a tad frightened at the thought of going. Seeing neo-nazi protesters during gay pride is bad enough. It almost feels that if I keep being honest with people about my atheism that I might as well just wear a target on my chest.

Question

"on Connie Chung tonight."

Do you happen to know the time and channel? Never mind. For some reason I just kept looking over it in the tv guide.

Red face

the issue was just on CNN/Connie Chung. it really seemed like Connie was incredulous at the fact that this guy brought the issue into courts. she even went as far as to ask if the whole issue would be more damaging to his daughter than maybe feeling like an outsider for not saying the pledge or part of the pledge.

Unhappy

haven't yet read all 9 pages!! of this thread yet, but on the local news here in western WA, interviews with many local citizens are unfavorable. You know, the the whole "this-country-was-founded-on-god-and-we-need-more-patriotism-in-our-schools-and-we-should-be-allowed-to-pledge-our-allegiance-to-god-because....
