Hi brighid

I was going to say "I wish I knew" but actually, I'm not sure that I do want to know

I can properly attribute the quote now:

Quote:
Friends are God's apology for relations.

Hugh Kingsmill

(from p. 278 of Abounding Grace, a collection of quotes compiled by M Scott Peck)
love
Helen

It is truly despicable. And it shows you how stupid, ignorant and narrow-minded people are.

It amazes me how hung up people are on sex.

The last couple of weeks, the xian radio talk shows (FITF, etc) have been full of anti-homosexual vitriol in response to June being Gay & Lesbian Pride month. It usually goes something like this:

"Let me first say that we love homosexuals. Some people call us homophobes but this is just not true...the bible says homosexuality is an abomination; it still is...the homosexual lifestyle is unhealthy...homosexuals should not be allowed to be married or have/adopt children...teaching tolerance to our children is wrong; it makes them think the homosexual lifestyle is OK...societies that tolerate homosexuality are doomed; god will judge them...the media is promoting the homosexual agenda by favorably portraying gays and lesbians...churches and denominations that tolerate homosexuality are anti-bible...the homosexual agenda wants to turn our children into gays and lesbians at an early age...look at all the homosexuals that molest young boys...homosexuality is a choice, a sinful lifestyle, not a genetic proclivity...Let me say again, we're not homophobes."

Not all Christians are like that. Up here in Seattle, there's a Methodist minister who proclaimed he was gay at an annual conference, and the bishop didn't even throw him out! He still preaches with full authority.

On the other hand, not all Methodists are like that. Just a few of the more vocal western contingent.

I do remember a babble study where someone was trying to go through the babble and prove that God didn't really hate gays. For example: God burned Sodom and Gemorrah not because they were gay, but because they committed the sin of being inhospitable to strangers. Just goes to show what people will twist the words to say in order to justify themselves.

This subject never ceases to amaze me. Even if homosexuality is a sin (and you were to believe in sin, God, etc...), so is lying, and cheating, and gossip, and adultery, um, and divorce I think. How many church goers, pastors, members of the military, and politicians completely refrain from lying (on taxes?), cheating, gossip, slander, adultery, or divorce? Not a single one. Even the Christians say all have sinned. Why do they single out this supposed sin over all the others? Imagine if they treated divorcees or gossipers the same way! Of course, if they did that, there wouldn't be any of them left.

If that's love, sign me up for "hate."

IMO, gays shouldn't even be hired in several jobs such as pastors, teachers, principals, military just to name a few....
I'll bet he'd rather they didn't have any jobs at all, so they all starve to death. If they somehow manage to survive, he'd probably like them to wear pink triangles and live in a ghetto too.

What a scumbag.

Yes fortunatly there are a very large number of christians that are not homphobic, and frankly the numbers of those people increase every day. It's just that the people that are against homosexuality are getting louder. I'm the treasurer for my university's Straight and Gay Alliance in Philadelphia, and we get the Philadelphia Gay news every week for free. I was looking through it one day and counted about 10 different Christian Churches advertising in it as "gay accepting" churches in Philadelphia alone. A couple of them were related to the more main branches of christianity.

Y'know, if two people read a book, and one of them finds something anti-human and disgusting, and another finds a message of love and compassion, I may not be able to tell which of them has read the book correctly, but I can tell which one I'd rather share a planet with.
