That episode convinced me that the star trek writers had frass for brains. It was appallingly stupid 'science'.
Genesis, the episode where the crew of the enterprise started morphing into animals when dormant introns in their DNA were activated (including Barclay morphing into a spider, since apparently humans are descended from arthropods), was even sillier, biologically speaking. At least the premise of "The Chase" wasn't really much worse than the already-established idea that alien races are genetically similar enough that they can interbreed, they were just explaining a ridiculous part of Star Trek canon in terms of an equally ridiculous "seeding" idea.

Default sorry to disappoint you,

members, I concede I am an old ignorant dude, but that doesn't mean I concede my integrity, I don't plagerize, my thoughts are my own,if I like some one else's thought, I will print in quotes, with credit to the quoter, from the quotee,, the God thing are my own, that some trekkie writer thought my thoughts are purely coincidental, I sure didn't see that episode, only a fool would print it as its own,if he saw it, I'm dumb, not foolish, I'm proud of my thoughts, because they are my own,...

Sorry Cojana, didn't mean to imply that you were stealing other peoples sci-fi plots.
