Default Where did Mrs. Cain Come form?

I once heard that she came from down the block. There were many people alive at that time beside adam and eve in the creation myth.

As much as I like to think I know about the Bible, I'm not sure. Certain forms of incest are prohibited, such as a son with his mother-in-law or something like that, but I seem to remember the Bible does not specifically prohibit father-daughter incest.

I think lot and his daughters were sickos not Gods chosen people.
Well, God "chose" them to survive the firestorm against Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot was a sicko for offering his daughters to be raped by an angry mob, and getting so stinkin' drunk he didn't even recognize he was later screwing his own daughters.

You may say that they had no choice because they had to populate the earth.
I wouldn't say that, because God only allegedly promised to wipe out two cities, not the whole world in that situation. There is an implied apologetic that Lot and daughters were OK with the incest because they THOUGHT that the rest of the world was destroyed.

Populating the earth through incest pose many problems because if the incest goes on for generations the offspring will be born sick or deformed.
That's a problem more associated with the stories of Adam and Eve, and Noah and his immediate family.
Quote:
Try this with two hamsters.By the twelveth generation they will be born sick or deformed.
My son wanted to do that as a science fair project, but I told him that by the twelfth generation he'd be overrun with mentally and physically defective hamsters that nobody wants to adopt. So, instead, he made 3.2 volts out of three potatoes, two lemons, and a lime.

Populating the earth this way cannot happen and did not.
Another standard apologetic is that God magicked things along the way so the process could continue without the genetic breakdown, but if that argument is used, the need for all this inbreeding population is pointless because God could've instantly magicked everything into place exactly the way He wanted it - like instantly evaporating all sinners from the world except for Noah and family and menagerie, without the need for rain and flood.

Could it be the case that the world pre-flood was so different that all our theories about the results of incest simply do not apply?

There was no world wide flood. Get over it.

There is nothing wrong with incest as long as you keep it in the family! Just ask Kosh

On a serious note:

Hugh Ross tried to resolve the incest problem:

Quote:
Given that we are all descended from Adam and Eve, either Cain or one of his brothers must have married a sister. This would seem to violate the commands recorded in the book of Leviticus forbidding marriage between brothers and sisters. The Levitical laws, however, must be considered in their proper historical context.

Though the book of Genesis condemns sexual relations between children and their parents, it nowhere prohibits a man from marrying his sister or niece. Abraham, for example, married his half-sister without compunction. Not until the time of Moses were laws established forbidding a man from marrying a sister or niece. The timing of this command makes perfect sense biologically, for genetic defects as a result of intra-family marriage would not begin to crop up until after the first few dozen generations.

I guess Adam and Eve's family tree didn't have too many branches

Of course Dr. Ross' later nonsense is slightly amusing. It has nowhere near the potential of the uber ass but hey, this is pretty funny stuff: "If Cain waited until he was 200 years old to marry". Hello! Is anybody in there? Thank you for your insights, Dr. Ross :boohoo:

Traditional Phi Kappa Sigma insult: "Ask your Aunt Mommy and Uncle Daddy why you only have one set of grandparents and one set of great-grandparents!"

Something I've wondered for a while:

If Lot was that drunk, how did he manage to screw anything?
