Tom,

The position that you outlined is basically that which many people have attempted either in this thread or the previous one. It goes from "sentient life" to periphrastic description of human animals. Why does no-one extend the right to life to other animals?

They do not ask to end up on your plate. They are sentient beings that feel pain, experience fear, and often live entirely awful existences just to end up on your plate. How about the sort of animal that gets thrown into boiling water for one's appetite? How about ones that have had no more room than the space of a television all their lives?

I actually made no choice on the comparison. I merely pointed out that the animal ends up dead.

The only thing that you're saying is that you have a little more brain functionality than your cousins.

Unless you run into a Jeffrey Dahmer clone, you won't end up on anyone's plate so you can't really make a choice on the matter either.

Spin, can you honestly tell me that you see no objective difference between a cow and a human being that might be morally significant?
