I think there is only one possible way to handle this debate: lie.

Invent studes, facts, theories. Make up entire scientists if you need someone to quote. Forge pictures using photoshop, or make your own drawings and surround them with what looks like a page from a real technical journal.

After all, you will be doing it for God, no matter what the commandments state...

...which is why this is an absolutely awful excuse for a classroom exercise. What will this student learn from it? Nothing at all.

I've had students evaluate creationist arguments before (I actually spent my weekend grading papers on the subject), but I always have them take the evolutionist side -- that's where the evidence is. I might play devil's advocate in the class and throw out some of the creationist nonsense, but I wouldn't consider asking students to endorse that crap, even for pretend.

Nice post Rufus, but you forgot to mention that ALL great scientists, like Isaac Newton, were Creationists and never accepted evolution for a minute.

Since it's an anthropology class, argue that Quetzalcoatl did it. That will piss off the actual creationists in class, who will then be forced to show why their myth is superior to yours. Voila! A session in comparative mythology, which is far more germane to an anthropology course. Unless it's a physical anthropology class, in which case pz's original objection applies.

Well, I do remember a number of years ago when I was out fell walking (I wasn't in the lake district BTW, I just fell walking) and I came across a cave. It looked about as old as the earth, and on the back wall was carved 'Earth MkII, Made By God AD -4800ish. It makes you think doesn't it.
