Thanks pantera,

Since I will probably be here in ohio for a while. i am interested in this stuff so I can do my part to try and fight it (lawmakers, school board meetings, ect.). Is this really a threat?

Professor Starkey received the Ph.D. degree from The Ohio State University in l949. He then served as a mechanical engineering professor at Ohio State for about 32 years.
Hmmm… in 1949?? I think it is unfortunate that someone who probably only took introductory courses in biology in the 1940's presumes to know more about biology than those who study it today.

It would be interesting to ask some science professors at OSU what they thought about this guy's arguments.

I have to admit that it is subtler than saying he had a doctorate in creation science from a residential based diploma mill.

Not sure - I'd have to look into it really - I just had the links passed on to me today, mostly for the value of the parody site. I hadn't heard of it previously, but I may just not have been paying attention.

I'm sure you could get a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (or whatever) without doing any biology whatsoever, save whatever he did in high school.

He has written a book called "The Cambrian Explosion" (shamelessly plugged abour 739 times on that page) though - if it's anything like as convincing as the article I'm sure we can expect some major upheavals in biology any minute now.

Not sure I fancy being laughed out of their offices, but it's an interesting thought.

Doesn't matter if he studied biology in the 1880s; he still shouldn't make a mistake like that. This guy can't even grasp the concept that populations, not individuals, evolve.

Hmmm... had he studied biology in the 1800s I suppose it could have been a cutting edge critique of Lamarkism.
