Which means that the Sermon on the Mount is just plain WRONG.

Those of you who have pets or houseplants, think of what you do when you take care of them. You supply them with food/fertlizer, water, etc. You don't simply dump them somewhere and let them fend for themselves.

And the god of the SoM supposedly does exactly the same thing for the wild birds and the wildflowers, enabling them to live the indolent lifestyles of pets and houseplants.

It is also possible that you just misunderstood it.

I'm being the Devil's Advocate here, I'm not trying to be a jerk. Though I am... I don't always mean to be.

I'm curious, do you really believe this, or was it in jest? Do you state this simply because you read it, so it must be? Is there any proof that you can state, which would make this fact? Or is this just a statement of faith in a god that has no real evidence to back it's existense, at least none that I've seen supported.

Hey Colorado Springs, is it still the home to over 100 National and International Religious HQ's?

christ on a stick is not a theist, she is meerly pointing out that the xian god would probably help out focus on the family if he thought they were doing some good.

I think the point is that hypothetically speaking the falling revenue could be veiwed as god's disaproval.

Hypothetically, yes.. but a famous catch-phrase in Christian circles maintains that 'God works in mysterious ways.' Often it is difficult to figure out what he wants and does not want, I suppose. Therefore people shouldn't assume that they are being punished or something just because they lost a leg, or a parent.

Again, if people are interested, read the book of Job, it's worth your while if you are trying to understand Christianity/Judaism.

Actually, I don't think P&J are buying it...the TBN ministry is paying for it as their parsonage, IIRC.

That's true for all imaginary beings, I reckon. That's why folks like Dobson are the "mouthpieces" for what the good Lawd wants for their ministries. Mainly, the good Lawd wants you to become a partner by sending in your monthly check.

Therefore people shouldn't assume that they are being punished or something just because they lost a leg, or a parent.

God works in mysterious ways. Actually, he works just like if there was no God at all...makes you think, doesn't it?

Again, if people are interested, read the book of Job, it's worth your while if you are trying to understand Christianity/Judaism.

I've read it, along with the rest of the Bible.

Exactly what message am I supposed to get out of it about the Judeo-Christian god? That he's willing to kill all your children and livestock, and afflict you with illness (or allow Satan to do it on his behalf, based on some kind of a dare), just to win a wager with Satan?

You never cease to amaze me Mageth, as you are incredibly closed-minded.

Actually, what is interesting is that there is so much harping on 'Fundie Christians' here, but not so much on 'Fundie Atheists.' Maybe I should take a clue from the name and nature of the forum - but, I thought atheists were trying to make an appeal to reason, and not to blind bigotry?
