...I'm affraid I'll have to disagree there (great timing huh? *ducks*)... Somewhat. Like I said whether someone believes or not isn't of any significanse I can think of, but what they believe in does, because that affects matters such as people's outlook on life, selfperception, priorities, loyalties, and let's not forget behaviour. It can bring out the best and the worst in people.

The other day I believed there was no harm in doing a friend and my sister a little favor... man!; did that backfire! The road to hell is paved with good intentions I guess.

Amie,

Tell that to your fellow xians. I'd be more than happy to let bigots be bigots as long as they're not forcing their bile-filled, hateful religion on anyone else.

Sincerely,

Goliath

Keep up that optimism that people will deconvert. Just maybe one day you'll realize its *not* important what other people believe in. Worry about your own damn self.
no, not important at all. Perhaps we should tell that to Captain Billy Clegg-Hill. Or to the past victims of any genocide? Or maybe to the Muslim communities whom have have their mosques vandalised and destroyed, and their women harassed on the streets recently.

Now, i wouldnt for a second be suggesting this is an exclusively Xian thing, but arguably, all these things stemmed from belief; some arguably religious belief. And, some of these people are dead because of these beliefs imposed on them. Now, atheism vs. theism i certainly hope hasnt gone that far yet, but when something invades every aspect of your life and someone elses beliefs are what restrict you from your freedom to your own beliefs, there's a problem, and it needs to be discussed.

For those of you in the peanut gallery who think I only spank the theists when they're naughty, let me clarify: both major parties participating in this thread need to cool off. Please take your personal attacks and criticisms elsewhere - preferably to PM. Love notes and other off-topic fluff should also be kept where they belong, i.e. not in this thread.

Thanks.

I think the discussions here at IIDB tend to be more of the "you've not demonstrated that a god exists"type rather than "a god doesn't exist" argument.

Since we can't tell if any particular god is lurking in some hidden part of a far distant galaxy, all we can really go on is whether there has been sufficient evidence proferred (evidence, not assertions) to say that the existance of said god is sufficiently likely to accept as a working fact.

The rub comes in when one side is shouting "have faith and believe!" while the other side is saying "show me".

cheers,
Michael
