Default More ID vs Evolution

Biology textbook hearings prompt science disputes

(via the Infidel Newswire...doing a great job!)

Nothing we haven't seen before. I just don't get the point. Ranting follows:

Don't these people know that 1) a theory is only replaced/superceded by a better theory, one that will predict/explain better the data we see, and 2) evolution in grade school isn't supposed to go into great detail...it's an introduction, and the finer points and debates on what parts need work will come if they pursue university studies?

I realize they are just trying to push their hidden message through, but from a open minded point of view, how can it be a competing theory, if all it does is attack (usually blatantly falsely) evolution points, without offering anything to replace the points with?

Quote:
Many of those groups say that they are not pushing to place a divine creator back into science books, but to show that Darwin's theory is far from a perfect explanation of the origin of mankind.
Simple BS...the implication is that evolution doesn't happen, and we are designed! That's why it's called intelligent design, no? And who has ever stated evolution is a perfect theory...NO theory is perfect. And stop calling it Darwin's theory...his ideas weren't all correct, and have been updated since the early part of last century. Catch up, people!

Quote:
"If we are going to discuss scientific information in the textbooks, the discussion will have to remain scientific," Berlanga said. "I'd like to hear from some of our scientists in the field on the subject."
So would I. Please present your much improved (perfect?) theory which establishes all life forms are designed by "some" intelligence. What data do you have that hasn't been explained by evolution, and what about all those exceptions that seem to always spring up, bad designs, that evolution can offer explanation for?

Prove it, or stand down.

Actually Rhaedas,

Just a glimpse of the impending future -- the latest revision of IDiocy now claims that even evolutionary mechanisms could have been designed -- because, y'know, evolution is such an ingenious way of adapting life and unfolding the IPU's hidden plans. Beat your head on that one a couple of times

It appears to have gone OK at Austin, but the DI will surely rearm:
see the item about Texas at NCSE. I'm going to the hearing in September, even if I have to wear a necktie. And even if it harelips the Pope and Billy Graham both.
