Default North Carolina Town Says The Hell With "Freedom Fries"

Carrboro backs French, not the fries

Quote:
Bring on the brie and Beaujolais. While others might be saying no to all things French because of their opposition to a war with Iraq, it's "Vive la France!" here in the "Paris of the Piedmont."

The Carrboro Board of Aldermen -- rarely reticent to sound off on world issues -- has proclaimed April to be French Trade Month. The people of Carrboro -- all 17,240 of them -- are encouraged to buy and consume the products of France during those 30 days of spring.

"Even though it was kind of tongue-in-cheek, it's kind of in response to these very hostile, angry acts toward France," said Alderman Jacquelyn Gist, author of the resolution. "I thought that we could make a stand in the other direction and say that 'I think France is right in trying to avoid war.' "
Hooray for Carrboro! They're about 15 minutes away from me, so maybe I'll head out and participate!

I say good for them! I am getting sick of all the anti-French notions. I even get glares for buying Evian. I'm getting really fed up with getting these type of emails from my cousins:
Quote:
Subject: Earthquake in France

February 14, 2003. Today it was reported that severe earthquakes have
occurred in 10 different locations in France. The severity was measured
in excess of 10 on the Richter Scale. The cause was the 56,681 dead
American soldiers buried in French soil rolling over in their graves.
According to the American Battle Monuments Commission there are 26,255
Yankee dead from World War I buried in 4 cemeteries in France. There are
30,426 American dead from World War II buried in 6 cemeteries in France.
These 56,681 brave American heroes died in their youth to liberate a
country which is guilty of shameful unspeakable behavior in the 21st
century. May the United States of America never forget their sacrifice
as we find ways to forcefully deal with the Godforsaken unappreciative,
forgetful country of France!

PASS THIS AROUND! Maybe it will get to someone in France!!!

That is disgusting. How can people say that the dead of WWII have anything to do with what is going on right now? Where is the correlation here? What is this attitude that we saved your asses before so now you have to support us no matter what shit we try to pull?

Cool on that NC town though!

We rescued France from an immediate, major German threat in 1943.

Therefore, they should support us in taking on a non-immediate, minor threat in 2003.

Make sense?

Actually, they were rolling in their graves because people have been saying they couldn't have been patriotic without saying "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

You all clearly aren't coming down hard enough on France. *I* on the other hand, have patriotically renounced all things French, and have even gone so far as to file suit against the company "French's" (they make that damnable yellow mustard), suggesting that the government take control of all of their properties and finances. Where is your spirit?! All patriots hate the French

Vive la France! (waves flag)

I'm ashamed of my area. A nearby city is hosting a Support Our Troops party in the now Freedom Quarter of town.
