Of course you didn't say that you would start a discussion on the pro's and con's of prayer with a mourner when s/he is very vulnerable. I think I just didn't do a good job of reading your posts (english is a second language for me, so I have trouble picking up finer nuances). Your position seems to be: "They do something nonsensical, but I will only discuss the nonsense on appropriate times". If that is true, we agree.
That's it, Enai, I'm glad we worked that through.

You have a better grasp on english as a second language than many I encounter on a daily basis here in the United States.

I've always been envious of people who are fluent in other languages.

I can only order a beer and ask where the bathroom is in spanish, which did come in handy when I lived in San Diego, but those are stories for another time.

Stay safe and take care.

Isn't it obvious that praying helps and comforts the Prayer, not the Prayee? Isn't that why people pray? For personal calm and comfort?

Just brought Mom home from the hospital after 11 days. She has breast cancer which is into the lungs and possibly bones, so she's doing the hormonal/chemo thing right now. But one lung had collapsed and a procedure caused pneumothorax which made hospitalization necessary.

To the point: While she was there, one of her roomies was praying to god to take her because she was so miserable and suffering. A couple years ago I'd have misunderstood this behavior. I mean, a woman is dying, and she's praying to god to take her. It's just like Lamma said, 'Where was your god when you became injured and diseased? Where is your god in your suffering?'

Knowing now that someone is only to the best of their ability, and sincerely, seeking relief from suffering, even if it involves invoking what I perceive as cultural legends about a great sky fairy, I can understand it. And that's how I see the Dilfer situation.

Do you exchange a lily of the valley ( muguet) as we do in France on May 1st? none here in Fla but I managed to treat myself for a pot of lavender which delights my mind back to the scents of La Provence.
Happy Labor day to you too.
