That kind of shock COULD cause heart failure and death, even in a young person. It would be more likely to cause a heart attack in an older person with some heart disease. Occasionally young people die suddenly, while participating in sports, that have an undiagnosed heart problem.

The fact that the parents are only upset because the girl had that injury is disgusting to me as well. If my Catholic school had staged such a thing at all, my parents would have kept me out big time. As it was, I was very smart and got good grades, but I didn't pay attention in school. I wasn't disruptive, I just daydreamed a lot. They tried to make my mother take me to the school psychologist--who had screwed up quite a few kids there--and my mother said no, was very vocal, and even threatened them with lawsuit if they did it without her knowledge. AS a result, the teacher made my life a living hell the rest of the year. She was a real bitch.

Anyway, even if I had an injury, the lying and fear-tactic mind-destroying brainwashing would be loudly proclaimed against, maybe even more than the injury. Injuries heal, but you can screw up a kid's mind for the rest of their lives. My mother grew up with a wildly religious aunt, she would be more pissed about them trying to destroy my mind more than anything.

I mean, would those parents have happily gone along with it had they known these guys were staging this disgusting (and improbable, and pathetic, and hysterical) simulation-as long as they considered her operation?

"Sure, terrorize my daughter for Jesus, just don't mess up her knee while you're at it, okay?"

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions there, maybe they were upset about the other stuff, but it didn't sound like it.

This is merely another case of "fire and brimstone". It's terrorizing the victim into swallowing the religious story; it's just done modern style.
