Question When did you guys start believing in God?

Shrub just told China that 95% of Americans believe in God.
Last time I checked the figure was between 80 and 85% so I guess some of my fellow atheists must have changed their minds on the issue.

It was Metacrocks bullet proof apologetics that made you see the light wasn`t it?

P.S.
Shrub is such a fucking dick.

Shrub also said we had been friends with the Japanese for the past 150 years (forgetting about that little matter of Pearl Harbor and the unpleasantness in the 1940's). You can see the video at www.politicalamazon.com .

My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason. It begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific."

Bush is right....half of the previous century, and all of this one!

This makes me nauseous. I felt like throwing stuff at the TV during that speech.

IMHO, he's making us all look like complete morons to the rest of the world. Can you imagine Tony Blair saying something this stupid?

The entire speech seemed condescending. Basically, shrub was saying that we are all hard-working, god-fearing people, and that maybe you can be too, if you just have "faith". Of course, he seems to be implying his CHRISTIAN definition of faith.

Heck, we should have just elected Pat Robertson.

I remember reading somewhere that 95% refers to the number of theists in the country, and 80 - 85% refers to the number of people who describe themselves as Christians. So I think he was probably correct in that estimate, give or take.

A more interesting question though is why the hell does he think China gives a rat's ass how many Americans believe in a god?

Didn't you know, you're only pretending to be an atheist because you are rebelling against authority? And they pray that you will come to your senses before it is too late.

This is quite important: he may be conceding that the odd 5% are Americans!

I understand that his old man didn't.

Sorry, that was my fault. I was having sex, and I couldn't think of anything else to say. My bad.

DMB has a point. Dubya said during his speech,
Quote:
People take responsibility for helping others, without being told, motivated by their good hearts and often by their faith.
So it is possible in Bush's world to have a good heart without faith. More good news for atheists.

Of course, two sentences later he talks about how he testified to Jiang Zemin like a JW with nukes or something. So there's some more work to do.

As to the 95% thing, does someone have an actual source confirming or debunking it? I'm kind of curious myself. The Statistical Abstract of the United States for 2000 lists 8% as "none," but that includes people who did not answer the question. 5% doesn't sound too out of whack, but I'd like a harder figure.

Did anyone see the video clip of Shrub in church with the handwaving christians bellowing some hymn, eyes all glazed over, and shouting hallelujah? I think this was his regular church too. It really made me quiver to see that, I knew he was christian, but this church was off the deep end.

Sounds like a typical "Charismatic" church.
Probably Four Square denomintation. It was the
hand waving that eventually pushed me over the
edge... ;-)

No wait, it was the 30 minute prayers trying
to hold your hand up like that....

No wait, it was the moronic pastor who started
in the 2nd law of thermodynamics and evolution...
