Default The Madonna Remix Project: WTFDYTYD

In anticipation of her new album, Madonna decided to flummox the song sharers and release a fake music file -- mostly silence and her saying in the middle:

What the fuck do you think you're doing?

Now some remixers have decided to get their revenge on her, by folding her comment into various compositions.

Of these, my favorite is the one from DaRk.

lol oh yeah fake mp3s are going to destroy the peer-to-peers. Fuck you Madonna. Rock music is on some level about rebellion. You don't gain fans this way. If the industry wants sympathy for their poor musicians losing out to file sharing, maybe they should actually find some poor musicians to speak out about it?! But then why would they? Nobody knows about them to buy the albums. They are happy if a song or two gets around. Poplularity buys gigs. Whats that? Yes you can get paid to perform. Note to music industry: File sharing is not going away. Adjust or perish.

Actually, despite claims of file-sharing hurting the music industry - quite the opposite is true.

Apparently, people who share music files are more likely to buy albums than those who don't.

Perhaps people like Madonna may lose a little (though, I can't believe so much it'll kill them ), but those who may not otherwise have one of the big 5 (?) behind their marketing and distribution, or push for solid airplay are doing better because of file sharing.

Once I've got my daughter into bed, I'll come back with some links about it.

The odds of me buying an album are near null with or without file sharing. Maybe if they sold for only a few bucks I would consider it.

This thread is obviously not intended to be about filesharing, but I recently had an interesting conversation on the issue.

A mutual friend asked my musician fiance what he thought about music piracy. Fiance said that he thought it would be a great thing if musicians went back to making a living performing again, instead of just moving heavily marketed and micromanaged, denatured "units".

Also, the fact is that professional musicians enjoy a miniscule portion of the profits from record sales. The labels hoover most of the money up before the performers even see it. Bands make their money touring. Problem is that a lot of pro musicians, including Miss Madonna, are quite uneducated and probably have little idea of exactly where their money is coming from. I suspect that the folks who have spoken out most vehemently against mp3 swapping have been manipulated by industry types with an eye on the bottom line.

Intellectual property issues are another can of worms entirely, but the financial end of things seems pretty cut-and-dried to me.

IMO, if a thing contributes to the demise of the music labels as we know them, it can't be all bad. I've had too many friends bludgeoned half to death by these behemoths. Phooey on them.

Yes, it truly breaks my heart to think that Madonna might not be able to maintain her multi-million dollar life-style and could be living on the streets by the end of the year because of Peer 2 Peer music file swapping. :boohoo:

All I'll say is that I believe in intellectual property rights.

When did the bus come in? Must missed it. When did stealing become alright as long as you did it in your own home?
