Diatoms to Dinosaurs really is a fascinating book.

No, it ia hardly controversial that apes have the equivalent of smiles and laughs. So why do people here discuss of the non existent anatomic differences which explain non existent differences in facial expression?

Also I was looking for recent readings, as I have often seen people ask" can you provide more recent references", "interpretation has changed since..."

Beside, I was wrong in my reference, it was "Aux origiens de l'humanité" under the direction of Pascal Picq and Yves Coppens. (Tome 2 was right, though ) 2 thick books of vulgarisation on human evolution, each chapter written by a specialist (with sometimes strange ideas on what is vulgarisation... got extensive description of evolution of teeth shape, with specialised vocabulary ).

So chimps have a problem playing cricket, then. I should have known they weren't civilised...

On the contrary. It just means they're English...

DT, this is something I always pose as a challenge, not a claim. I generally ask for a single example of a gene, organ, bone, biochemical pathway, etc. that is found in chimps but not humans, or vice versa. I know of none, but I wouldn't be surprised if we find a few if we look hard, especially when we start comparing genes directly.
