Her inability to recognize how cruel she was being was due to a combination of stupidity and zealotry.
Fraud. Inhumane.
She accepted money. Fine, she never "solicited" any. But she accepted it. If she had no intention of giving it to the poor AND did not intend to convey that image, then there is NO REASON to refuse to tell people where it went instead and how much there was.

No, she intends to decieve by not being honest about what she received and where it went. If she did not have this INTENT, then why the subterfuge? Why? Fraud.

Second, if she had no intention of relieving suffering, why re-use needles? If you're going to use needles, use clean ones. If you're not going to treat, don't use ANY. This is creating illness. Inhumane. Criminally negligent at best. No argument makes this right.

Quote:
When it came to her own suffering, she did not have the courage of her convictions but instead took advantage of the best that modern medicine could offer to reduce her suffering. This makes her a coward. Hypocrite? Depends whether she changed her mind about relieving others' pain and sickness once she had first-hand experience of pain and sickness. Did she? If she didn't, then yes, she was a hypocrite.
Hypocrite as charged.

Quote:
Conclusion: Stupid crank, coward and hypocrite, but not intentionally evil.
Conclusion. Intentional acts are wrong, fraudulent, inhumane and cruel.
Does that = evil? I leave that exercise to the reader, I don't care for the term evil as it is too religiously charged.
I will however, use the term despicable.

She did what she did intentionally.
She hid from her donors her real use of the money. Spent actual effort hiding it.
She performed medical malpractice. In spite of donations which would mitigate it.
She prevented vulnerable people from getting help.
And she refused basic needs that she could afford to not refuse.

Despicable.
And horrifying that people are willing to not even consider these actions.

Did you read the congressional transcript I linked to?
Half of these acts, by anyone else leads to governmental inquiry. We KNOW it's wrong. We KNOW it's bad. But, she is beyond reproach and so there is no inquiry. It is allowed to continue.

And I repeat, it is EXACTLY this mindset that allowed the priest scandal to happen. Someone is beyond reproach and the victims accumulate. This is deeply disturbing.

I looked around at quite a few of the positive web sites about MT. I stumbled across one that made me wonder what this order of sisters are still doing. Are they still working with the sick using dirty needles? Has anything changed since MT has died? Perhaps the focus now needs to be on cleaning up these sister's acts or not allowing them to work with the sick and poor, if the sisters are still abusing them.

Quote:
While the society grew in work and number Mother kept praying for vocations and the work kept growing. Houses were opening and some closing down from one day to another for one or another political, social or security reason. The society is very much alive and moving. Mother Teresa went all over the world to help people, rescue children, advise her sisters; to organize and to talk. More and more she was asked to address words to a group of sometimes 'ordinary' sometimes very exquisite crowds. In spite of the fact that her message is often the same, can be captured in few sentences and that she certainly has many times a quite "traditional" point of view, she is listened to carefully. In spite of her age she continues to search means to help the poor people all over the world and she helps with the means she has. In every continent, even in Russia her sisters are present in their service to the lost, for the love of Jesus. In 1992 by the election of the New Superior general, she is prepared to hand over the responsibility. But she is re-elected. When in 1996 her health starts to fail seriously, due to her heart getting worn out by love and action she expresses the wish not to continue. On March 13th 1997 the assembly of sisters elect Sister Nirmala to continue the beautiful work, for the love of Jesus.
I found this appeal

"Don't Let the work end...

Mother Teresa
Missionaries of Charity
54 A, Lower Circular Road
Calcutta-700016, India"

It doesn't specifically ask for money but certainly seems to be a call for help which I would assume means monetarily. But this one does:

You can send cards, letters, and donations to:

Missionaries of Charity
54A Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road
Calcutta 700016, India

What I found further was interesting about MT performing a miracle beyond the grave. And the church accepting it and the controversy over the truth.

Story is
here.

Quote:
Doctors who treated Besra have even alleged that representatives of the Roman Catholic Church had tried to tempt them into saying that Mother Teresa's miracle had cured the tribal woman, a mother of two. . .

and Dr Manzur Murshed, superintendent of the Balurghat Hospital in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal, said, "They want us to say Monica Besra's recovery was a miracle and beyond the comprehension of medical science."

According to Dr Murshed, in 1998 Besra received nine months of anti-tubercular treatment for her abdominal tumour and was cured.

I would really to like to read this new book, when or if it comes out. I've only read the good perspective of Mother Theresa's work.

It is out already. But Amazon does not carry it yet.
Many international publishing house refused to publish it; one even cancelled a contract. Now it remains to see if the bigger shops have the courage to sell it openly.

Some more from the book:

Quote:
Many Westerners who go to Calcutta and get disappointed or appalled by Mother Teresa's activities then make either of these two vital mistakes --- they presume a) at least she is doing something while the others are not, or b) even if the others are doing much more than her, it was she who started it all. Both presumptions come not so much from racism as from ignorance … There is also a reluctance to find out --- I have met many a Westerner who had spent months working as a volunteer at Mother's orphanage, but has not had the ocassion to visit the nearby ABWU homes --- maybe they are frightened about even more relevations about their icon.
She sends her residents to state hospitals for medication, some of the mentally handicapped children were sent to another charity which would ferry the children while the Mother's ambulence freeied the nuns to Church, and in one case the orpahange Nav Jeevan had to pay the organization for taking in an older child who could not be adopted. Eviudently for Missionaries of Charity, charity was a one way street --- it was unthinkable that she would give any money to other charities though she would take money from poorer ones.

In 1985, MT went to: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, HK, China, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Switzerland, Usa, Thailand, Egypt, Ehthiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, twice to Vatican, Poland, France, and had a cataract operation in NY.
Quote:
"Can the gentleman and ladies of the media tell me when amidst all these whirlwind whiz, MT (of Calcutta) could fit in time to work in the slums of Calcutta"
.

No one would be making such a great fuss if MT had not been built up as the very example of saintliness.

I apologize to you people for inflicting this fixation of mine on you, but I simply can't fight it any longer.

Aside from the miracles of appearing to be a great humanitarian and of making money disappear, what miracles has she worked? The Monica Besra "miracle" is the only one that the Vatican has seriously considered. Why not any really big miracles?

Like those allegedly worked by people of centuries past.

Like:

Some little children were teasing MT about what a wrinkled old hag she is. She cursed them in the name of God Almighty, and some stray dogs came and killed several of those pesky kids.

MT was on board an airplane that was flying through some rather bad weather, with similar weather expected all the way to the destination airport. She prays, and the storm clouds go away, resulting in clear flying all the way.

Someone stole some of MT's stuff -- and went blind.

MT lost a crucifix in the streets of Calcutta, but not long after, a stray cat brought it back to her.

MT performed exorcism and magical spit therapy -- and had some easily-documented cures.

MT even raised some people from the dead.

Unhappy

I find the idea that booksellers would refuse to stock the book very, very disturbing.

BTW, did you know The Vatican (home of the Catholic Pope and headquarters of the Catholic Church) holds a seat and a vote in the United Nations equal and equivalent of countries and governments around the world?
Correction: the Vatican is a city-state, just like Singapore. For this reason (and this reason alone) it is indeed entitled to a UN seat. If you wish to see the Vatican removed from the UN, we'd have to kiss Singapore goodbye as well. I don't like it any more than you do, but those are the facts of the case.

Quote:
No other religions are treated as governments by the U.N. !!!
It gets better: absolutely no religions whatsoever are treated as governments by the UN.

No, not even the Vatican (which is not a religion anyway.)

Well there was an aeroplane accident once: but MT was saved though two muslim children died. MT gave thanks for her deliverance but said nothing about the children nor gave any compnesation to their parents.

Cured Monica Besra of her cancer --- people who attribute it to doctors do not know what they are talking about.
