Its not easy is it. To improve the quality of life we must leap ahead and into the unknown. Before we leap there must be a need to leap. For example, it doesn't make much sense to invent a stone wheel just to carry your dinner home if you were a hunter gatherer. It usually was the need for survival that led to innovation and that still is true today.

zigzackly.....the difference in myths of various cultures/tribes could be an indication of the quality of life (subjective i know) and their ability to "think" ? All human beings can perform certain basic functions expected from a homo sapien, but certain cultures have been able to do much more. Whether the "much more" is required or not is a subjective call. Is all innovation a result of a particular need? Survival....comps...planes........
