And what about the passages from:

Titus 1:15
John 8:7
John 8:46-47
Rev. 22:15-16

:boohoo:

It wasn't a problem in my home for that matter - the Bible is like a mirror...

Default irony alert

But that is exactly what we are talking about, sTORY. Christians who instead of seeing what is written in the bible see only reflections of their own selves. Your Titus quote is a perfect example. It's taken out of context and is the end of a tirade which begins-- The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
You can find this mirror phenomena very clearly illustrated here at GRD. Some Xians here make God and the bible out to be all sweetness and light, others have you rotting in the pit of HELL because you are born evil. Both groups claim to have the same god and the same book.
I can't help but notice that, by the quotes you picked and your little blurb, you are strongly implying that only nasty people (like us?) would look for the nasty quotes. As though somehow it is the readers fault that the bible wants you to beat children. This is an insidious form of censorship you have going for you there.

We tend to overprotect our children in these modern times.

They can easily read the Bible and be unaffected by its gore --------Children have always throughout history been able to do this. Probably a very good and very educational way to learn about some of the strangeness in life.

Any of you read the original stories for children by Grimm etc.? Hansel and Gretel in the original? Little Red Riding Hood in the original? ----------None of this would be allowed today for children to be read today. Most of you underestimate the inate intelligence of children. Our ancestors knew better.

Children can read the Bible uncensored. They can also read Grimm's fairy tales for children uncensored. ----and no harm will come to them. If anything they will be well prepared for the capitalist self serving society of today by reading such things. (None of us want to really be eaten by the wolf)

It is us parents today who are the wussies and try to overprotect our children from things they can easily handle on their own.

Exactly Biff,
The Bible is a mirror not only for Xians but also for everybody who will explore it and try to find fault in it. As you might already know that people from any culture or tradition are still humans like you and me. Humans are imperfect and make mistakes, so when you look at the Bible you will see shadows and pictures of imperfect people just like you and me. Even the prophets were imperfect people. If all were perfect then there was no need for a perfect Man. The Bible in its integrity has recorded of events both good and bad. People throughout the centuries have tried in their greatest efforts to discredit the Bible. If it was dishonest then the bad parts would not be found. People don't like the Bible because it exposes their imperfect condition and people who follow the Bible are laughed and mocked at just like the people did before the flood. But there was one perfect man who was without sin and this was the whole purpose of the Bible, was to reveal Him who was Jesus Christ. Throughout the Bible even the holiest of prophets proved to be a failure but the Bible was pointing to this Man, the Man Christ Jesus who would be the perfect holy one. If all were perfect in the Bible, then there wasn't any need for Jesus to come into the world! That's why this wasn't a problem in my home. There's nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of!

That's all!

Exactly Biff,
The Bible is a mirror not only for Xians but also for everybody who will explore it and try to find fault in it.

It might serve you well to reread Hans Christian Andersens The Emperors New Clothes where the people are told that if they can't see the Emperors new clothes there is something wrong with them.
The bible is not a mirror, it is a book. A mirror can only reflect the information that you bring to it. A book transmits the information placed in it by it's author. If you are only seeing the information you want to see you have a problem.

As you might already know that people from any culture or tradition are still humans like you and me. Humans are imperfect and make mistakes, so when you look at the Bible you will see shadows and pictures of imperfect people just like you and me.
And all you see in the bible is the work of humans and only humans. And why not? Humans are the only ones who write books. None of the other animals could write (at the time. There are a few great apes who can now)
Even the prophets were imperfect people.
The prophets were the witchdoctors of tribes of primitive people roaming the desert. Since I sincerely doubt that you would accept the ravings of some nomadic Shaman in 2003 it would be ridiculous to accept those from thousands of years ago.
If all were perfect then there was no need for a perfect Man.
There is no need for a perfect Man. Our current stock of guys is more than adequate.
The Bible in its integrity has recorded of events both good and bad. People throughout the centuries have tried in their greatest efforts to discredit the Bible.
It's no big trick.
People don't like the Bible because it exposes their imperfect condition and people who follow the Bible are laughed and mocked at just like the people did before the flood.
People don't like the bible because it is based on obvious lies and has caused more harm to be done to mankind than any other single book. The believers who are mocked are those who lack respect for their neighbors and try to force this primitive mumbo jumbo on them. It's poor social skills that are getting you into trouble.
And there was no flood.
But there was one perfect man who was without sin and this was the whole purpose of the Bible, was to reveal Him who was Jesus Christ.
Who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal man.
Jesus!!! Able to change the course of mighty rivers. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Faster than a speeding bullet more powerful than a locomotive…

Jesus Christ is a fictional superhero worthy of nothing greater than a comic book. There is no historic record of his ever having existed.

Throughout the Bible even the holiest of prophets proved to be a failure but the Bible was pointing to this Man, the Man Christ Jesus who would be the perfect holy one.
The OT only "points" to Jesus because it has been rearranged from the original Jewish bible to appear to do so. Jack Miles Pulitzer prize wining book GOD a biography covers this rearrangement in some detail.
If all were perfect in the Bible, then there wasn't any need for Jesus to come into the world! That's why this wasn't a problem in my home. There's nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of!

It sounds like there is a tremendous problem in your home. My heart goes out to you and yours.

BTW the emperor is naked.

Somebody does have a real talent with legos.

The Old Testament is a great piece of literature---------think of all the movies that could be and already have been made from this source.

Do Christians censor the Bible for their children?

You better believe it!

I told my wife if she keeps dragging my kids off to church, I'm going to demand equal time to read the Bible to them starting on page 1. They haven't been back to church since.

Censor is not the right word. That's at best a gross euphemism, and the christians would euphemize "censor."

The bible is a mirror because it shows you your spiritual state.
"There's none righteous no not one. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. " [Romans 3:23 & 10] If the authors were crooked like you, then all you would find would be records of events which tingle your ears. It seems that you are the one with the problem in the first place.

Biff: And all you see in the bible is the work of humans and only humans. And why not? Humans are the only ones who write books. None of the other animals could write (at the time. There are a few great apes who can now)

hahahaha... EXactly, exactly my point!

Biff: There is no need for a perfect Man. Our current stock of guys is more than adequate.

Even an animal thinks he is perfect in his own eyes...
We are made perfect through Christ's work on the cross.

Biff: It's poor social skills that are getting you into trouble.

Not as much as you wish...

Biff: And there was no flood.

But you will not miss the fire...

Biff : Who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal man. Jesus!!! Able to change the course of mighty rivers. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Faster than a speeding bullet more powerful than a locomotive…

Yup!

Biff: Jesus Christ is a fictional superhero worthy of nothing greater than a comic book. There is no historic record of his ever having existed.

That is how you imagine things because your mind is as small as a comic book. But the records show otherwise...
It's not fiction but Fact!

Who is Jack Pulitzer? is he your Guru? Was he there when the Bible was rearranged? or was he just picking out thorns from a rose bush?

Biff: It sounds like there is a tremendous problem in your home. My heart goes out to you and yours.

Naaa... It shows there's a problem with your mind. No problem in my home. You need the mind of Christ to cleanse you from all corrupted thinking. My heart goes out to you and yours too...
