Am I going to have to be the first person to mention eating human meat?

I would like to say I wouldn't eat an endangered animal, but if it was served to me already dead, my not eating it wouldn't exactly bring it back to life. I'll try anything once.

I would also include Human to that.

Soylent green, anyone?

If you look at it logically, protein is protein. You can synthesize it from petroleum hydrocarbons, recover it from excrement, or get it from various plant/animal sources.

If it does the job of nourishing you, that should be sufficient to justify consuming it.

That is not to say that there may be good reasons for limiting the situations in which you harvest the protein (don't go setting snares for your neighbors if you don't want them setting snares for you), but once a critter is dead, the protein should be up for recycling.

cheers,
Michael

I recall a science fiction novel in which the kids went out with collection bags to catch cockroaches, which were referred to as "flavored calories".

Due to my socialization, I'd prefer to not know about the greater-than-zero cockroach percentage in my food (and to anyone else who is squeamish don't EVER read the lists of "foreign ingredients" the FDA/USDA allows in commercial foodstuffs).

cheers,
Michael

I will quite willingly eat kangaroo meat but some of my friends say that it is disgusting that I eat Australia's national emblem

I actually think that eating kangaroo is better for the Australian environment than eating beef as kangaroos do not damage the environment like cattle do.

I've gotta admit, I'd probably be less upset about eating human than eating kitten - after all, many times in my life, I have received far better treatment from cats than from my fellow humans...

My main issue with eating human would be the possibilities of it being a disease vector. That and considering the crap most of us eat, how nutritious would it be, really?

Eat only healthy people!

I only eat humans that are inadvertently killed during the harvesting of grains.

I find that hilarious for some reason.

Reminds me of the time when I was watching an episode on the Food Channel (love that channel!) and the guy was in Russia eating reindeer. Reindeer!

I can imagine a ton of kids crying over that during Christmas time.

Reindeer and caribou are essentially the same animal (they share the name Rangifer tarandus) What's strange about eating caribou?

(edited to add: WOOHOO! 500 posts!! I'm a veteran now!!!)
