Default Star Wars Galaxies.... need opinions

Hey all,

I have been contemplating buying SWG for awhile now but haven't seen enough or heard enough to convince me to fork over the cash. At the moment I am paying/playing for Planetside which I love to play but I have to take 2 week breaks from it because it gets stale. I have been doing free trials for Sims Online and Earth and Beyond.

Sims Online just isn't for me, not enough action.

Earth and Beyond is ok, although the same thing applies not enough action. Great graphics and story though.

I was an avid EQ player for 2 years when I quit, I was also a Guide at the time. It was consuming my life so I had to stop. When I play now it's for a limited time so I really can't get into a game that favor's the power player. I heard that SWG is like that.

Anyway, I would just like to have anyone's opinion on this. Thanks in advance!

Here's my take,

I was an avid UO player from release for 2 years 1/2 years. I played EQ from release till the release of Luclin (even led arguably the 3rd best uber guild for 5 months) and have done DAoC/AO/Etc in between.

SW:G has nothing for the EQ player from the uber world, it has nothing for the UO player. It's a lot like a weak DAoC with elements of all games. You will have fun for about 2 weeks, I was convinced the reviews were wrong and that it was actually a fun game, till you realize there's no drive to improve.

The game suffers from no goal, no hope, no drive to get on and level like you did in Everquest. It's socially isolated at this time, and has a lot to work out. Unless you have a super PC, expect serious lag inside the cities (outside it runs great though.)

The graphics are beautiful, the game play is horrid, the quests are tedious and dull

This game has potential, here's your choice... Build a character now and utilize the potential when it's finally realized with a strong character. Or start the game when the promises come in with a new character.

I always say make your own opinion... and mine is I'm done with SW:G for 4 - 6 months depending on what I see done with the game. I had a blast for 2 weeks, then lost all drive to login.

That's basically where I am at with Planetside. I haven't logged in awhile and I don't feel the need to. I play some of my older games in the meantime and even though there isn't any kind of growth in those games I still enjoy them more.

I figured SWG was like this, SOE is kinda going downhill and I am afraid that EQ 2 will most likely go down the same path. The market is too saturated right now with MMOG's that games are rushed out before quality can be added. I want to be wowed again like when I first started playing EQ.

Dream on I guess.

And to the above poster I would pay $15 a month to play a game that exists in a persistant world that might change from month to month. So would the thousands upon thousands of other MMOG players that are out there.

right, you are all wierdos for paying $15 a month for a game, but the people who pay $50 a month for cable are perfectly normal...

15 dollars a month isn't so bad when you think about it this way. Say you buy a particular game a month for $50 and you do that over every month. You can just buy a game like SWG and play that for several months without buying another game. It might seem like a waste at first glance but to another it is not.

As for SWG, I was considering trying it out but the horror stories scared me away. As of now I am playing Eve Online and it's pretty cool so far imo (some people disagree). There are some pretty major things that need to be fixed though but the launch hasn't been horrendous.

If you're looking to kill sometime...

I've been going through all the single player RPGs I passed up and have been having an absolute blast

Icewind Dale II : 8.0/10 for story 9.5 for combat
NeverWinterNights + Expansion : 9/10
Baldur's Gate 2+ Expansion: 9/10

Other fun games

No one lives forever 2

and the company that makes the Baldur's Gate/NWN series is coming out with a star wars game that is going to be SW:G promised to be, just single player... Picture a NWN in the Star Wars world. Check out Black Isle's website (can't wait for this game.)

Also, Rise of Nations = Great game!

I've never played it, but I was in Electronics Boutique yesterday and the box is freakin' huge! I mean do they actually pack the Death Star with it or something?
