This is what I get when I post with a time limit of 15 minutes. I only knew of the Eastern Orthodox Church which split from the RC Church.

How well have they done, historically?

The Orthodox do not have divisions based on differing interpretations of scripture, but they are divided by nationality.
So how are the organized, out of curiosity, other than antionality. Do they have a way of unifying themselves over international borders? Do they have a heiarchial system like the RC church? Or does each denomination do its own thing, not unlike the many schisms in Protestantism?

I also agree with Nietzsche but in a real sense. Nobody is a Christian unless he has died on the cross but only to his ego consciousness and this is what Nietzsche meant--but you did not understand. Yes, it is in the bible, on many places.

Actually, Toto, you'd be surprised how much influence, if not direct power, the Serbian Orthodox church in particular wields. This has much to with the fact that it's the only Serb institution to stretch across national borders. Also, the presence of Orthodox monasteries in Kosovo plays a large role in why Serbia doesn't wat to let Kosovo go (apart from the usual Field of Blackbirds 1389 palaver).
The church itself doesn't pack much punch, but a demagogue politician can do worse than to cozy up to the nearest metropolitan.

And now a quick joke on the many Dutch varieties of Protestantism:
One Dutchman makes a religion, two Dutchmen make a church, three Dutchmen make a schism.
Thank you, tip your waitresses, try the veal!

An atheist will never know because before a myth can be understood the mind of the mythmaker is needed.

The Catholic Church is right and would function much better it it was allowed to function as it was meant to.

The CC is modelled after the human mind with the believer having a free will while the teachings of the Church serve from the subconscious mind. This happens in two ways, first to encourage sin and later to pardon the sinner. This also is why the Church at large is (or should be) above and below the state but never on par with the state.

The mythmakers knew exactly that there are two kinds of salvation because they are described all over the bible. The provision of both is what made this mythology so successfull. This is based on the fact that the science proliferates omniscience and thus the stimilation of sin ("speckled sheep") stimilates science which in turns proliferates omniscience and so the viscious circle is set in motion.

They were IIRC the dominant religion in Egypt before Islam. During some periods of history they were protected by the Muslim clergy, some times they've been persecuted. The trend seems to be a downward slide for them right now. According to ReligiousTolerance.org, they aren't being forced into ghettos but their religion is discriminated against.

From the above link:
"The Egyptian government discriminates against the Copts and hampers their freedom of worship: it enforces onerous restrictions on building or repairing churches; applies religiously discriminatory laws and practices concerning family law, conversion, and education; restricts Copts from senior government, military, and educational positions; and subsidizes media which are used to attack Copts.
So to answer your question, not very well.

The Ethiopian Orthodox church, supposedly founded in the 4th century CE, was the official religion of Ethiopia until 1974 when the Communists took power. Other 'Oriental Orthodox' churches are "the Apostolic Orthodox Church of Armenia, the Antiochan Orthodox Church of Syria (Jacobean Rite), and the Malabar Orthodox Church of India."

Davidh, Thank you very much for your concise piece of protestant propaganda. I will leave it up to Amos to dispute the fine points of your attack upon the catholics. I see you are from N.Ireland. Your sectarian extremism is chilling considering where you come from. I wish that all froms of this excreble religion were destroyed so places like N.Ireland could find peace.

Many of your attacks upon catholic history are true and in fact the church committed crimes of far more violence. Yet, your religion is equally dripping in blood. There was nothing in your widely read bible that prevented the defenders of protestantism from killing and destroying. Many a woman was hung for "witchcraft" based on the ravings of protestant ministers. One of the founders of protestantism, John Calvin, had girls drowned for being pregnant without being married.

Protestants beheaded and killed in the same manner as catholics. Your accusations of the catholics ring very hollow given the blood crimes of virtually every cussed protestant sect. Protestant ministers have perverted and repressed generations with biblical nonsense about damnation.

A pox on all houses of the christian delusion.
