Thumbs down

I hate River out of Eden. But then again, I'm not much of a gene centrist or a replicator fanatic.

Well I am, and I still think River out of Eden is a much poorer offering than Dawkins's other writing. The river is a confused metaphor, and the points he tries to make with it are explored better in things like climbing mount improbable.

People bitch about Dawkins either for being too loud an atheist, or for focusing too exclusively on adaptations over all else in evolutionary theory. The latter is probably a legitemate complaint, but heck, he's mostly wriiting for laypeople anyway.

I had a 7th grade science teacher who is a big fundy. He said "A giraffe has a specail valve in the heart that allows him to dip his head into water without causing massive ciruclation problems. Now, how would his offspring gain this feature if it were obtained through evolution? Its not like the giraffe could could pass on the new feature after realizing the necessity of it." Basically he was saying the giraffe could control evolution, and that it was not random. It sickens me that a TEACHER could be this ignorant and still spread these lies.

I have found that creationists are extremely Lamarkian in their understanding of evolution.
