Bullies should be taken out behind the barn and beaten up. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

I think bullying is natural.
Just because something is natural doesn't make it harmless.

And define 'teasing'? A simple verbal insult would not hurt some, as it would be dependent on the personality of the victim.
Indeed, a "simple verbal insult" may or may not harm someone emotionally, just as a punch in the gut may or may not do harm physically. So should we condone them on the off chance that they don't do harm? In any case, bullying is rarely a case of a single insult, but usually a pattern of denigration, humiliation and physical assault. Anyone who thinks that this isn't emotionally scarring on a child has obviously never truly had to deal with it.

Farren,

Wow what a story. I wonder what the guy thought after that - I'd like to be a fly in his brain.

Bullying is wrong.

But for some, it does provide an opportunity to face adversity and assert yourself. Such an experience can build character and give one confidence in future situations.

Some 'harmful' things in nature are accepted. For instance, one cannot control floods or other natural disasters.

But doesn't bullying's effects (like the aforementioned verbal insutls) also depend on the victim's personality? In some cases, couldn't bullying build character?

Hi Loren,

I think that often just gives them more internal anger to be passed down the bullying line to someone else.

I certainly would like to see more official notice taken in non-adult bullying. Whenbullied as a kid I found the "boys will be boys" attitude (not that girls can't be extremely vicious) pretty uncomforting.

Living in terror is not something I recommend.

cheers,
Michael
