A teacher should not be allowed to do anything in a church on school time that they would not be allowed to do in the classroom. The rules don't change off-campus.

As far as I know "Jesus Loves Me" is not a classical artistic piece which they could learn from. Sounds more like a TV ad jingle. This was inappropriate but I don't think it's a big deal. At least there was no sing along!!!

Well, it's on the edge, but since they didn't actually sing the words...there are bigger fish to fry. Let this one go for now, but be sure it's not repeated.

If they only played the music and didn't sing the words, then I don't know that you have anything to be offended about. I know I don't know this song and unless they were singing the words, I wouldn't know it was religious.

GaryP,

You’re not too sensitive. You 100% correct to bring up this issue.

I know there is a bigger fish to fry, but we can’t ignore cases like this.

Why the children had to sing the anthem in front of the flag in a church? Because of that the children will associate good patriotic feeling and good classic music with religion. It’s a classic example how to influence young minds.

Please contact the board and ask them to make sure this “mistake” won’t happen again.
