OK, anybody know anything about genetics? Does the nustard seed have the least # of chromosomes or something, or should I just go and point out to this person that it's been shown that based on chromosome number, humans seem to be "lesser" than fruit flies? I'll have to get back to TO to check that one.

Chromosome number is not a useful measure of complexity. Humans have 46, Drosophila has 4, and horsetails (the plant) have 216.

Raw quantity of DNA isn't useful, either. There's something called the C-value paradox which points this out -- humans just don't stand out as having particularly distinctive quantities of DNA, which troubles some people.
