Does it seem distasteful when someone else takes advantage of abortion services, but you still want to reserve the right for yourself if you need it? What kind of support is that to pro-choice?

Everclear put it best:

"God forbid you ever have to walk a mile in her shoes,
Then you'll really know what it's like to have to choose."
Since I have had an abortion after to a birth control failure, I don't think I am being contradictory at all. I stated very clearly that it was something I found PERSONALLY distasteful. I think preventing unwanted pregnancy is the ideal goal and someone who refuses to take any steps to prevent unwanted preganancies over and over bothers me on a PERSONAL level.

The options on this poll suck, but my personal option (Always legal) was on the sucky list so I voted anyway. Many, many people are against abortion after a certain time frame and not including that as an option is a terrible oversight.

To get both sides I think you should post this on a Xian board with the question "If the scan showed your baby was going to be an atheist, would you abort it?

Minor quibble: it wasn't Everclear (the band)--it was Everlast, former front of House of Pain, gone solo.

I wonder what are you goning to benefit from knowing the atheists opinion on this matter. but to note a point here: I think it's a fact that Atheists are the only ones who are capable of given an opinion that's closest to objectivity.

Objectivity? Ironically, I saw an ad in a libertarian magazine several years ago from an atheist anti-abortion group and I contacted them. They sent me a shitload of anti-abortion material, and I subsequently had a debate by letter with their leader - a woman who was an Ayn Rand objectivist. Her basic argument was similar to the religious one - there is a unique individual produced at conception that IS therefore a person.

Apparently, it takes a person who is dogmatic and absolutist to be utterly against abortion, regardless of whether said person is a religionist or a secularist.
