Default Take Your Daughter to Work Day

It is that day again. Time to take your daughter to work. Get her out of school and away from those pesky boys.

Yeah, I saw several kids throughout the day at school. I felt sorry for my psych teacher's son, though; all we did during the hour was take a test. But most of the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves.

My kiddo got to go the auto-shop and help her dad bend metal. Much more interesting than watching mom sneeze, wheeze, and pretend to code all day. (friggin' cold viruses)

And it was entirely accidental on our part. They're in the middle of evaluation hell at school (state mandated achievement testing), and she finished today's test section at 10:15, so Mr. Ab went to pick her up so she wouldn't be bored at school. (When this happened on Monday, she hung out for the rest of the day coloring and reading to the special ed kids. Our tax dollars in action...)

We have it here in Vancouver, not today though (at least I don't think it was today, today is "Jeans Day"). It's just "take your kid(s) to work day" and, to my knowledge, has never been gender specific, though the focus is on people in grade 9 for some reason.

Here is the text of an email that I received the other day:

{my company} will not participate in "Bring Your Child to Work Day" (April 24) this year due to heightened security precautions.
NOOOooo! You're letting the terrorists win!

Oh well, my son's only 2, so it's not like it was an option for me anyway.

Lots of employers have changed it to "Take your child to work".

I think it remains a misnomer. It should be called "Take your disease vector to work" Day. It's bad enough when these co-workers "tough it out" and bring the viral infections they picked up from their kids (who picked it up from other kids at school) to work with them, but now they're skipping the middle man/woman in favor of direct exposure to the little Typhoid Marys/Martys.

I say if you've been careless enough to produce children, please be so kind as to keep them and their diseases to yourselves.

godfry (and child-free, too)

Is there a reason that it was ever for daughters only?

UMoC, also childfree (as George Costanza said, you have to have a date first)
