It seems to me that there are about as many types of christians as there are people who consider themselves to be christians. ALL christians pick and choose what to accept from the bible and what to reject.

It's a simple question, sportsfans:

Do you not agree that if Clinton claims to be a Bible-believing Baptist then he is a hypocrite? I think that the religious right has no problems admitting he is a hypocritical Baptist. Do you?

If DeLay is capable of worshipping Christ, he is capable of worshipping Clinton. If Bush can give claim to Christ as being his most revered political thinker, he can do the same of Clinton. Clinton/Christ, whatever, not that much difference between the two if you ask me. It appears the Cons have more of a facination with Clinton than with Christ. Kinda like they are mesmerized by him. They remind me very much of Monica. In fact, I see the GOP as a tragic, monica-esque figure.

Clinton violated a couple of the 10 commandments, but that doesn't make him a hypocrite, just a sinner, and Christians think Jesus forgives sins. I see no reason to brand him a hypocrite.

I don't know that he ever claimed to be "Bible believing" (which I assume means fundamentalist).

I don't know why you want an atheist like me to decide who is a True Baptist. I'll let the Baptists fight about that. (I'll be happy to watch from the sidelines.)

Gore by the way, is an ABC Baptist (i.e. Northern Baptist) and a theology school dropout.

Clinton and Gore are both pro-choice, so as far as the religious right is concerned they advocate the murder of babies and couldn't possibly be True Christians.

You might as well say that Clinton and Gore are opposed to slavery, which is sanctioned in the Bible. On the other hand, unlike their critics, neither one has been divorced, which is a major biblical prohibition.

It's also worth pointing out that George Bush has not given away all his wealth to the poor, in spite of Jesus being his favorite politician. I think he also profanes the Sabbath by watching football.

In short, there's enough strange stuff in Christianity to make any Christian something of a faux Christian. I prefer to reserve the word hypocrite for those who cast stones (metaphorically) at others for sins that they themselves have committed - like the posse that went after Clinton for a blowjob.

BTW - I know the Bible says nothing about abortion. I don't recall its position on blowjobs. I do recall, during the Lewinski affair, a Los Angeles paper got a number of Talmudic scholars to opine that oral sex did not constitute adultery, although I forget the complex and subtle logic behind that.

I too have found many Baptists to be highly hypocritical. I beleive it partly has to do with the once-saved-always-saved doctrine.

I reread your question and I have a better answer. Clinton doesn't claim to be a "bible-believing" (i.e. fundamentalist or biblical literalist) Baptist. He just claims to be a Baptist. Being a Baptist doesn't mean you have to believe that the Bible is the innerrant, literal word of God. Many Baptists now do, but some don't (my grandmother for instance). So he's a Baptist but not a fundamentalist.

The only thing he's done that goes against Baptist doctrine is to commit adultery numerous times. And like a good Christian he begged forgiveness from God. Then did it again, then begged forgiveness again....
