Indeed. While Denmark had the most autocratic form of government in Europe on paper in the form of an autocratic constitution (1665-1849), there was still one single limitation on the king's person; he had to be a lutheran. Back then he was truly king due to the grace of God.

Ah, yes, the good ole days. It matters not what the established church is, when there's an established state church; it invariably affects negatively the nonmembers and corrupts the head(s) of the states.

In faith based initiatives, guess which faith gets preferential treatment? Even here in the U.S., there's much ado from the dominant Baptists in the Bible Belt about the glories of Christianity, but they're also areas where you'll find a lot of Salvation Army thriftshops and ZERO St. Vincent De Pauls, Deserets, or even Goodwills.

The favored church invariably preys on its constituent poor, raking in thousands but doling out pennies while holding them up to elicit more donations.

Ah yes, well that's one of the good things about having a socialdemocratic welfare state; private charity is rather insignificant. State church or no state church, there aren't really any 'faith based initiatives' (as in, funded by the state).

Doling out inordinate tax breaks that go beyond what's taken in as alms (like exemption from or reduced real estate taxes, etc). is state-funding a church.
