I had an argument like that just recently,

Kind of the same thing, My answer was "What if I spend my life pestering him and never get an answer? Should I not also go scuba diving in Loch Ness to search for nessie every day until I find her? Follow every rainbow to search for Leprechauns until I find one? Search all of the North Pole for Santa until I find him?"

Of course he thought that my analogy of Nessie/Lerechauns/Santa to God was wrong...

If someone comes back with a circular argument for belief in god, then the conversation should probably just end. They will probably not change your mind, you will probably not change their mind. Indeed, there isn't much need to for either person to convert. Nothing would be accomplished with such a conversion.
