That's no excuse - they might still be able to pick up the bodies from the sea. It's no reason to order them to stay in an inferno.

Sorry, I misinterpreted what you said. You said that they wanted to be accountable for the bodies, but I said they they didn't need to make them stay there and burn for that to be possible.

winstonjen how easy do you think it would be to locate a body in the sea?

Naturally and instinctively we would want to run from the fire to survive. You'd just have to decide what is the lesser of two evils in that situation...

I've seen a bit about this on ...Discovery I think. They've invented special lifeboats for this, that can safely make the dive from platform height. Guess it also depends on what the boss cares to invest in.

Run from a fire that is engulfing an oil rig that is of limited size. That's gonna work.

As for bodies they don't find, they could just assume they were dead until proven otherwise.

would that be good enough of an answer for someone in your family. People need closure, a missing body would be a difficult thing for families involved...

Have you ever thought about joining the AN? you'd fit right in over there

What's the AN?

Would the familes of the 9/11 victims want to see the bodies when so many bodies were incinerated - no remains left? Why not stop their false hope?

It is not so much about seeing the bodies more so than knowing they found the body. Obviously if the body was incinerated or unidentifiable in any way the family would not "see" it so much as they would be told through testing the remains it was in fact their loved one. There is some closure there. As devastating as it is, to be able to give a proper burial or what not is a step in the healing process...IMO
