Default Taco Bell: Discount for religionists?

WTF? My local taco bell just put up on there sign the following: "Bring in a church bulletin for a 10% discount". How obnoxious! Is that kind of like saying "Card-carrying republicans get 10% off"? Is this even legal? I took a picture of the sign... I think I'll send it along with a letter to my local ACLU affiliate... we'll see what they think about it.

Default Well...

Technically, it is a private business, so they are free to do what they want. Not that I think it's at all fair.

However, I wonder what the Taco Bell top brass thinks about this. It's definitely not a chain-wide thing, and it may very well be against company policy. Maybe someone needs to bring it to their attention.

I wonder what the reaction would be to someone who printed out the "Kissing Hank's Ass" pamphlet and brought it in.

I'm pretty sure that this is illegal. A fundy tried this a few years ago at a store that he owned and was ordered to stop after an atheist filed suit.

Since Taco Bell is not a religious organization, they cannot discriminate on the basis of religion. (Federal commerce regulations are somewhat nutty like that.) Such reglations were put in place to end discimination. The first one hit with it was an Alabama BBQ joint that exported its sauce across state lines. Because it participated in interstate commerce, the Feds could tell it that it had to serve African Americans.

Play along with them! Get a church bulletin, get your 10% discount from Taco Bell, and just before you leave confess your secularism (if you are a secularist).

Talking

Or bring in a bulletin from a non-existant "church" of atheism. See how they react to that!

What about my newsletter from the Humanist Society? Think the brainiac behind the counter would even notice?

I think there is something on the FFRF website about a similar situation.

Link

Sounds very similar to me.

Bust out photoshop and make your own Satanic church bulletin, have fun and be creative. Tell them you want some hot sauce for the sacrifice of the baby later and DEMAND your 10% off!
