Okay, Magus: why should we hold this God in any higher esteem than the AC, if both of them are deceiving us? I'm leaving for work soon; I look forward to hearing your lame reasoning on this one.
The same reason as the rest of the bible - might makes right.

These can't both be God. Where do you think the others went wrong?
God is a god of love, but He is also a God of justice and righteousness. He is required by his nature to judge and punish sinners. If you aren't for Him, you are against Him - an enemy of God. He offered you a way to escape sin, you reject it. You turned down God's love, so now He must judge you.

Sure you may see Him as a tyrant, I don't. I see God in the OT as a Judge who is righteously judging His creation for disobeying and sinning against Him countless times, with no remorse. Are the judgements in the OT often harsh and severe? Yes, but such harsh punishments are necessary for a sick, violent, hateful and greedy world. But I also know that God is loving, and shows thisthrough the NT and His plan to save us from sin.

"Love me, or I'll torture you forever." Sounds like something a lot of wife beaters would say. Is that your definition of love, Magus? It sure doesn't confirm to mine. Nor do I see much room here for mercy.

Frankly, Magus55, you ought to move to a nice rural Southern area and become a preacher. Your zeal would make you an over-night success amongst my gullible kinfolk.
Thanks, we have enough of their kind down here! You keep him.

If he is so just, why doesn't he judge himself? Oh, I know, because he'll be found guilty of commiting the very acts he condemns, and end up sending himself to hell.

So God is compelled by his nature huh?
And you think the world is a "sick, violent, hateful and greedy world."
How is your nature doing?
Do you feel compelled to do anything besides gloat over Atheists being damned because we aren't Jews for Jesus?

Actually, I do find some worth in that: help the poor, don't steal, don't murder, honor your parents; these are all worthwhile ideas, and the world is better for following them. What I have problems with is a God who breaks his own rules, vs. a "Man of Sin" who lives by no rules. If there's a difference between them, it's hard to see.

Why shouldn't God let me believe the lie of the AC? Why, indeed? He let Adam and Eve believe the serpent, according to your sacred scrolls; it would appear that he really wants some to perish, despite what his propagandists say. So to vindicate himself, he's willing to let 5/6 of the human race be destroyed, toying with the AC, the world (a world HE created and declared good, remember?), and all for...what? His glory? Gonna be mighty few people left to tell him how great he is...

Mercy came with Jesus Christ - He offered you a way to escape God's judgement, you choose to reject it. What you think God should just let you get away with your crimes and go to Heaven when 1) you don't want to be there, and 2) you are still covered in sin? Get a clue. Would you ever let a guilty criminal come into your home?

Because He hasn't committed any crimes. God is perfect, sinless and Holy. His actions are done in righteousness, humans actions are done in greed, envy, lust, etc.
