Quote:
Niggle on Buddhism
Even the prayers are better, it's more about doing good than asking God for help.

So long as space remains,
So long as sentient beings remain,
I will remain
In order to help, in order to serve,
In order to make my own contributions.
"The king who judges the poor with truth,
His throne will be established forever."

"Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy."

"Learn to do good:
Seek justice, rebuke the oppressor;
Defend the fatherless, plead for the widow."

"Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
Whatever things are just, whatever things are pure,
Whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report,
If there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—
Meditate on these things."

"He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none;
And he who has food, let him do likewise."

"She who has mercy on the poor, happy is she."

"Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,
The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil
In your heart against your brother or sister."

"Faith by itself, if it does not have good works, is dead."

"Since the time I was young,
I have cared for orphans
and helped widows.
I provided clothes for the poor,
and I was praised
for supplying woolen garments
to keep them warm.
If I have ever raised my arm
to threaten an orphan
when the power was mine,
I hope that arm will fall
from its socket."

* And the list goes on and on and on . . .

My main man, vixstile had this to say:
Therefor I would choose to worship MAN before I would ever choose to worship this horrible thing "nature" I see people raving about

TO MAN!
I'm with you, buddy! I originally put 'Other' because organized religion of any flavor is sham, IMHO. My 'Other' would have been none of the above, until I read vix's stuff! So here's to vixstile:

Other acceptable choices to me are:

From Dewin:
IF I HAD TO CHOOSE A RELIGION I WOULD BE A JEDI KNIGHT

From Tellurian: I would worship Aphrodite, as long as she could fulfil my desires. The only way I could accept any "God" or "religion" - stop thinking and go with the sensual experience.

Hinduism, Shinto...?
One of the five major religions and one of the big "minor" ones not listed on the poll.
I marked "other" for Shinto.

Although it was an option in the poll, choosing "Buddhism" is too much like cheating - you don't actually have to believe in anything supernatural, and I think most atheists at IIDB are in some kind of sympathy with its teachings.

So if I was struck blind on the road to Portage La Prairie and had a personal encounter with capital-G God who told me to just pick one, I would pick Sikhism. I respect the Baha'i as well, but they're Abrahamic. There aren't a lot of religions whose dogma includes the equality of women with men.

Zoroastrianism. Any religion which commands people to bathe is cool with me.

Plus, those Persian women are hot.
